Default insulin resistance question

My Mother & grandmothers on both sides had type 2 diabetes. I have a sister that is borderline and one that was just diagnosed. I had all my blood work done and everything came back "normal". I had an ultrasound done, and the doctor said I have polycystic ovaries, but wouldn't say that it IS "Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome". She is doing a fasting insulin test (other doctor only did finger prick test). It is just the regular blood test, I don't have to drink anything. My question is: Is it possible to have a normal result and still be insulin resistant? Should I insist on her doing the other tests where I have to drink and then be tested a few hours later?
