When I was with my doctor back in May, I was talking to him about Insulin resistance. He said it is possible that I do have it. But that the test for insulin resistance isnt really conclusive (I think thats the word I am looking for) So I wasnt test for Insulin Resistance.
I do have a lot of the symptoms of IR so I do think I have it but I would like to be sure.
Can someone tell me what is the Insulin test? I've heard and read about the Glucose intolerance test but I'm not sure if thats the one or not?
Thanks!

When I was diagnosed I simply had a fasting insulin test done. Your insulin levels should be between 10-15. Anything above that is considered insulin resistance. My Dr. also had me do the 3 hour glucose tolerance test and that also shows insulin resistance. My doctor has always maintained these test are very accurate in predicint insulin resistance. The problem may be for women who are border line IR. Mine was clearly IR. My insulin was 62 extremely IR. You can do some research on the internet. Theirs lots of info on IR. Good Luck.

Most Dr's run the fasting glucose and and a fasting insulin only of the FG comes out abnormal. But the FG & FI tests are very inaccurate, so my Dr also diagnosed me on symptoms (ovarian cysts, acne, carb cravings, gestational diabetes, facial hair, weight gain, blood sugar issues) because my labs were borderline.
Hope it helps!

Christy brought up a very good point here. Your FI can be borderline and your FG perfectly normal (mine were), yet you have almost every symptom off that long, long list. I say if you have the symptoms and your fasting insulin is higher than 10, get treatment. Can't tell you how much good I got out of starting Metformin last year!
