Default insulin resistance in thin women?

I've been diagnosed by a friend of the family endocrinologist as definitly having PCOS based on a ton of bloodwork, but I haven't met with the local endocrinologist yet (next week.) So meanwhile, I've been low carbing, excercising. But can anyone tell me, are thin women usually IR or not? If I am, will the low carb diet help much? If it matters, I'm 5'2", about 115, so I could use to loose a little, but I'm not really overweight.

Thanks, and sorry if this is common knowledge, I've only been diagnosed for two weeks.

Hi Bethann,

Welcome to SoulCysters!

Some thin women are IR, but some are not. From my observations on this site, it seems like a lot of thin women don't test as IR.

If you are IR, low carbing may help. I think many of us 'thin cysters' follow a more moderate carb diet, since we aren't in need of losing weight. Some of us are on insulin-sensitizing medications (Metformin or Glucophage) as well. You should definitely talk to your new doc about what diet approach and meds (if any) are best for you!

Good luck!
Lissa

I haven't been officially diagnosed as IR, but from what i can tell, i am...i've been low carbing/severely low sugar-ing (not quite sure how to put that ) for about 2 months, and since that time have had three periods (two very close together, and the most recent was about a month after the other two). From what i can tell, this is really helping, as i hardly ever had periods before. Oh, and i'm 5'2" 119 lbs, so i'm not looking to lose weight (although i'm happy with the 7 pounds that went away), but for me low carbing really helped.
