Insulin Resistant? Back in August I was diagnosed with PCOS. In September I was also diagnosed with hypothyroidism. My testosterone level was 67, insulin was 12, TSH was 3.26, and glucose was 97. My endocrinologist placed me on Synthroid 50mcg and Spironolactone 200 mg daily. I have not had a period on my own since May. In August I took Provera for ten days to bring about AF. I have not had AF since then. My levels were re-tested in November and my testosterone was 37, glucose was 92, insulin was 15, TSH was .2, and FSH was 4.4. I also had a brain MRI w/contrast to rule out any pituitary abnormalities. My endo does not know why I am not having periods. I am wondering if insulin resistance might be the problem? The lab values that my endo uses for insulin are 6-27 UIU/ML. I have seen information that suggests values higher than 12 suggest some degree of insulin resistance. My endo did mention placing me on metformin during my first appointment. She has not brought it up since. I will see her again in January and wonder if I should ask to be placed on metformin. Could it be the key to having regular cycles? Any help is greatly appreciated!
