Anyone have a really high insulin test score?? My RE said my first test was 39 and normal levels are 17 or lower. After a month of Metformin XR, it went down to 20, but he doesn't think it will get any lower with diet/exercise.
Any thoughts???

I was diagnosed with PCOS in 1997 and have been struggling with it since. I just started seeing a RE at the beginning of November. I have been on Glucophage since 1997 and I would have thought my insulin levels would have come down to regular, but the RE tested me again this month and my fasting was still high. I want to say mine was 54. I can't remember the exact numbers. Anyway, he has taken me off Glucophage and I just started with Actos + met. I am taking a pretty high dose too! Let's hope it helps.
When I was first tested in 1997 by my endocrinologist she told me that I had the highest fasting number she had ever seen. Talk about scary!
Good Luck!

Sorry, I need to clarify. He said that he thought diet and exercise would be the only other thing to bring it down the number further. I thought it was a little soon to expect the full benefit from Metformin... I have only been on the complete dose when the bloodwork was done for about a week.
I am going on a diet on Monday (tommorrow) and will start an exercise plan, so I'm not complaining about that. Maybe it will make the numbers even better!!!
BTW, andysmom, how is the actos and met working for you??? I still have tummy side effects even with the Met XR, but the RE thinks it will go away if I eat better.

It doesn't sound like he's giving the met a chance to work at all. I would bet your number will be lower when you go back if you're still taking the met.

I have been doing pretty good on the Actos + met. A couple of times I have felt nauseous, but everything seems to be okay. I won't have any of the blood tests until February though, so we won't know for sure until then.
