Default Insulin and Weight Loss/Appetite Question

Hi all!

So I started on insulin a few days ago. I have not been diagnosed diabetic as my A1C is fabulous. I am suffering from the dawn phenomenon really strongly though. My Endo thinks it's due to my liver being damaged. My blood sugar will be great when I go to bed at night but quite a bit higher when I wake up the next morning. Apparently my liver is kicking out more glucose than it should in the night. We're hoping that a small dose of insulin will give my liver a break and let it heal itself.
I started on 10 units of Humulin N right before bed. I'm supposed to raise it 2 units every second night until my fasting is ideal. I'm on 12 units now.

My question though is about appetite. I've lost 4 pounds in the last 3 days and never feel hungry. It's hard to explain though. My stomach can physically hurt I'm so hungry but I just don't have an appetite. I don't feel the need to eat. I'm confused because my Endo said that I will probably gain weight. Is the appetite thing something that goes away over time?

Thanks!

Sandra,

I haven't heard of that happening -nor does that happen to me- I gain weight when I'm doing my insuling properly ha ha. I would say to keep a diary of that and let your doctor know. I did have a similar issue on an oral med- glyburide - and had nausea too, turns out I was allergic to it. I don't think you can be allergic to insulin though...

Best of luck, let me know what you find out!!

Julie
