I'm new at this PCOS thing and it's been very frustrating to me! Well, the insurance party anyway.

I have always carried the Ins in our family and since I worked for ins. companies I had pretty decent coverage. I decided to stop working and go back to school so we picked up my husband ins. He works for a wal-mart distribution center. OMG THEIR INS SUCKS! It really, truly does!

They told me I HAVE to take birth control pills to treat PCOS. Well, I could treat it other ways but they won't cover anything then. Does this sound right to any of you? What information can I use to fight this? I'm finding it hard to voice my opinion to them since I just started researching this. It's got me so upset right now.

Could you get your physician to turn in a diagnosis of other things that need to be treated like insulin resistance (Met), hirsutism (Spiro), etc. I can't imagine that the insurance company wouldn't rather pay for those old, generic cheap drugs instead of BCPs. You might also consider challenging their refusal to pay for drugs other than BCPs by providing them some literature that says BCPs are not the best long term treatment for PCOS. You could probably look around in the article section of this board and find some of the ones Kat has posted.
