Default Insurance denied IVF

Hey all,

first post, stumbled on this site today figured I would throw this out and see if anyone has any ideas.

today our insurance denied us coverage for ivf. We have previously done 4 cycles of clomid and ovidrell and our doc recomened that we submit this to the insurance co for appoval. DENIED!

We have already drafted, with the help of our doc, a appeal letter to the insurance co.

Is there anything we could be looking into.....
1. While we await their decision.
2. If we get denied again

I'm on my last thread of sanity

-Jay

(I know this is the husbands/bfs board, but I'm female.)

That absolutely stinks and I'm sure you're very upset!

You probably have a couple months until your insurance company decides the appeal -- most insurers take some time to handle appeals. In the meantime, try to rely on your friends and family for support. Also start planning what you're going to do if your insurer does deny your appeal... could you scrape together the money for IVF yourself somehow, would your insurance cover other fertility procedures , adoption, etc. None of those options are the same, of course, but I think that talking through the worst-case scenario and developing a plan for it might help.

I don't know what if anything you've tried beyond Clomid and Ovidrell, but here are some other things that some women here have tried that may or may not be options for your situation -- Metformin plus Clomid, laparascopic ovarian drilling, etc. Also, couple of my friends have had great luck with the Paul VI Institute in Omaha and doctors trained there (which uses NaPro technology and a variety of non-IVF approaches)... I don't know all of the details, but I know my friends highly recommend them.

If you're already looking at IVF, I suspect that you've already looked into a lot of options, and I don't want you to feel like I'm insulting you... I just couldn't tell the details of your situation from your post.

*hugs* to you both
