Cool Insurance for infertility

Most insurance companies do not cover infertility. The ones that do not might just cover the consultation or the one time diagnosis of infertility. I live in Illinois where they are supposed to cover infertility BUT I have a private insurance through my husbands work IBEW which is the electrical union. They have found a way around the state law by being a private group. So if anybody knows of an insurance that you can go and get that covers it please let me know. Thank you and good luck !!

stephy- when you say infertility help do you mean meds, HSG, SA's ?? I actually do have great benefits but b/c I am not married until next aug and work for a catholic company I cant touch my benefits.. So what I have done is started with my annual and "mentioned" PCOS and they gave me a ultrasound along with pap and did full bloodwork up as a routine diagnostic for PCOS. I also am using soy (7$ walmart)to start with and take Met for the IR (4$ walmart) and will be asking for an unmonitored cycle and rx for clomid (4$ walmart). I know any SA's or HSG or monitoring would not be covered but these 3 steps would def be a good place to start. After talking to my doc next month I will determine if I need a trigger shot and I have been able to find those for 30$... I hope any of this info helps and I am SO sorry about your benefits, its very frustrating but just remember since you have PCOS its your foot in the door for them to have to "look" sometimes. LOL GL hun !

Good news everyone! I've figured out a way to use two different watch / unwatched overlays so now I can add them to the text-based lists. Update soon!

Hi I'm new here. But, not so new to PCOS. Anyway, our current insurance doesn't cover any kind of infertility treatments. Do you happen to know what insurances do cover infertility in Illinois? (we live in IL also)

Thanks!

In Illinois, HMOs and publicly funded insurances are required to cover infertility. This will explain it better than I can: http://www.infertility-law.com/faq_insurance.html#2

Until January 1st of 2010 my employer offers HMO Illinois by Blue Cross Blue Shield and that is who has been paying for my treatments.

http://www.inciid.org/article.php?ca...ance101&id=243 This link was also helpful in learning about companies who may insure for fertility.

Good luck!

Oh, I get it now. I have an HMO, but it's my personal insurance. I'm not under my companies health insurance. It ended up that if I would switch insurance, my insurance would increase...so my employer just reimburses me. I work for a very small mom and pop type company...so even if I was under their insurance...their company doesn't have 25 employees. So, it looks like because of those 2 things my insurance isn't required to pay for it. Unless I'm reading and understanding that wrong...

Thank you for the information though. I will definitely hold on to it and show my husband!

MLA, i am in a similar situation. My insurance as of January 1, will only cover diagnosis only. Right now I have a $20,000 lifetime max. My coverage is through BCBS-IL. I had to put TTC on hold, due to husband becoming unemployed and me being diagnosed with diabetes, and doctor wants to tie my left tube after having HSG done. The link provided was helpful. I need to find out however, the company I work for is headquartered in IL, so how can they not continue providing coverage.
