Question Insurance question

I have Tricare... which of course is terrible about covering hardly anything at all.... but anyway...

They are covering my traditional PCOS treatments (ie: OB/GYN visits, Metformin, etc) but I've started seeing a great doctor who deals with Alternative treatments as well. Tricare refuses to cover that. I've heard that medical expenses can be written off on taxes. Any idea how that works and/or what paperwork you need to obtain? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated, since my visit yesterday cost me over $200 and my next visit is next week!!!!

You can deduct medical expenses on your tax return, but only to the extent that they are more then 7.5% of your adjusted gross income. For example, if your adjusted gross income is $40,000, you can adjust medical expenses that are over $3000. If your medical expenses were $2500 you could not deduct anything. If your medical expenses were $3500, you could deduct $500.

You can search on the IRS web-page for "medical expenses" and find out whatever you need.
