Points: 6,564.31 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 6,564.31 | Int'l Adoption in Massachusetts? Hi Ladies,
So, i'm pretty much throwing in the towel on trying to conceive. I'm about to turn 34, and I just don't think it's ever going to happen, and i'm probably way too old at this point to go any further.
My husband and I met w/ a place called Wide Horizons in Newton, MA. We liked what they had to say, and they've been around since the early 70's.
I'm looking for more int'l adoption agencies to compare / contrast. I'm not keen on meeting with Alliance for Children. When I called to make an appt, they never returned my phone call, and when I called again and set up an appointment, the woman we were supposed to meet with never bothered to show up, which I was livid about. I called her later and she "forgot"...doesn't instill a lot of faith in their program.
I'm very reluctant to even consider domestic adoption. I've heard too may stories about people changing their minds, the cost is insane and it just seems too risky.
Can anyone suggest other int'l options for someone from Massachusetts? I'm very new to this process, so any advice would be wonderful.
Thank you!! |

I would highly recommend it - we learned a lot we didn't know and are able to direct our intentions better once we were armed with better information.
Also, this website has a lot of info http://adoptioncommunityofne.org/pag...-resources.php
Hope this helps.

Its a China only agency based in MA, China Adoption with Love. So far I've been very pleased with their response to my questions and just seem overall really nice. I'm not sure if you're looking for an agency that has programs other than China, though.
I know what you mean about throwing in the towel... I'm 33 and not waiting around on my body anymore. In the 3+ years we'll be waiting for our China baby we'll continue ttc but if it doesn't happen at least I KNOW I'll be a mom through adoption. Good luck to you!

I am in NH. We have been looking into adoption also. Any idea what country you would like to pursue?
We have looked into (and heard great things about) WHfC, MAPS (in Boston), China Adoption With Love, and Children's Hope International.
Best of luck to you!! We are back to considering adopting through DSS (in Mass) because we just don't have the 30k.

You don't have to use an agency in your state, most agencies work w/ other states & they either have services for homestudy in your state or you find your own SW to perform the HS, updates, & post placements. We lived in TX when we adopted (recently moved back to MA). We used a different agency for our HS & are using CAWLI for our post-placements.
Good Luck!

We will request a healthy infant 0-6 months. The wait could be a day, or up to a year. The social worker doubted it would be that long. There is legal risk involved as the parents rights have not yet been terminated. These children do have a goal of adoption, as opposed to kids who just have a goal of foster. It can take months, sometimes over a year, for parents rights to get terminated. In the meantime the kids have visits with their bio parents. the visits are held at DSS and supervised by the social worker.
