Hello all,

I've never posted in this section of the board. Dh and I have been on the adoption roller coaster for about 2 years. We finally found an agency to complete our homestudy and we've even identified a child that is in another state.

Since my dh is currently away, I have to wait a few more weeks before we can get the process underway.

For those that have had their homestudy completed, how long did it take to have it completed? Was there anything that slowed the process down? Was there extra paperwork need (for interstate compact)?

If you've adopted from another state, what was the process you went through?

I did not adopt from another state but our homestudy took seven months to finnish because of the fingerprints taking a long time to clear and having a new worker working with us.

good luck with this we are very happy with our three boys who we should finalize on in the next few weeks.

We just adopted our son from a different state and the Interstate Compact (ICPC) was no big deal. The birthmom went to court and we got the baby. We just had to hang out in Missouri until the ICPC paperwork was done. We were there for over a week. We got the o.k. from the state of WI and we were free to leave. You can do anything in the state that the baby is in. We just hung out in St. Louis and did all the tourist things. We could have waited until the ICPC paperwork was done before we got him but I couldn't wait another day!!! That is a nice option if you can't afford to stay in a hotel for a week...my parents paid it for us!!! He stayed with us in the hotel the whole time!

We didn't have to do any fingerprints for doing domestic adoption (even from a different state). Our homestudy process went very smoothy....about a month and then we were a waiting family.

Our homestudy took about 4 months. The reference letters and the physical forms were the slowest things for us.
