intro -perimenopausal? I was dx with PCOS in 1990. Had a hysterectomy and one ovary removed in 1993 due to painful heavy menses, enlarged polycistic ovaries, prolapsed uterus and scarring. She left one ovary in for the "hormonal" benefit. My GYN told me I had PCOS, but I honestly did not understand what that meant until this week when I started doing research on adult acne. I've only had cystic acne for thirty years so far. Now I realize all the things my GP has been treating me for are because of PCOS. Obesity, high LDL, low HDL, high triglycerides, high blood pressure, weight gain despite diet, chronic fatigue, sleep apnea, depression, mood swings, pelvic pain, sometimes shaky feeling and dizzy, and acne. I never even told him about all the whiskers I pluck daily. I don't think he knows what PCOS is other than ovarian cysts. I think my GYN knows, but failed to explain it to me fully.
After reading info here and other sites, I got my GYN to order a serum insulin test. The results came back today being high. She is going to start me on Met this week. I would like to communicate with other cysters that are perimenopausal or at least not TTC. I have an appointment at Contours (similar to Curves) tomorrow. I'm gonna go it alone right now for diet but may seek a nutritionist later. Hopefully with diet, resistance exercise and Met I may finally loose some weight and get my symptoms under control. My goal is to reduce the 12 pills a day that I already take for associated symptoms of PCOS and 10% weight loss. I need somebody to help be be accountable and to offer encouragement. Oh yeah, I also have one daughter that is 22 y/o and I fear she is developing some of these same symptoms.
