Hi -- I'm new here and glad to have found such a rich resource of knowledge and experience.
A little background: I was diagnosed with PCOS about 10 years ago at the age of 22 after never having a real period. I didn't have any other symptoms until my late 20s when I started gaining a lot of weight and experiencing more frequent breakouts. I have never really received any treatment aside from birth control pills which I stopped taking after 2 years thinking that was why I was gaining weight. My gyno at the time was a real b*tch who told me I was gaining too much weight and that was the problem. uh- yeah. OK. I stopped going to her and found a new gyno who is much more knowledgeable.
About a year and a half ago, I went to the gyno for a pap - it was 'abnormal' she said it was not a big deal - I just needed to repeat the pap in 6 mos to look for changes. In the meantime, my primary care doc rx'd metformin to see if would help me with the weight, but I only took it for a few months because I began bleeding and clotting unpredictably. I got scared so I stopped taking the metformin. The weird bleeding continued off and on for the next few months. I finally had enough and went back to the gyno who decided I need to have a D&C and hysteroscopy. I've been bleeding now since June. I'm scheduled to have the D&C on Thursday.
What should I expect from the D%C? I'm a little nervous. My doc has explained it, but I'd like to hear from someone who has been on the receiving end (so to speak).
Thanks.

so this is the new year
and I have no resolutions
for self assigned penance
for problems with easy solutions
finally there is clarity: this tiny life is making sense. and every drop numbs the both of us, but i alone am staggering.
I've had 2 D & C's this year because of miscarriages. To tell you the truth, even though I was a bit nervous prior to the surgeries, the recovery was very easy. I believe the surgery for my last one took about 15 minutes. However, I was in the recovery room for about 45 minutes because of the general anesthesia. My doctor prescribed pain meds for me but I stopped taking it after one day. I bled the next four days and then spotted on and off for the next 2 or 3 days. I wasn't allowed to drive for 24 hours after the surgery because of the after-effects of anesthesia.
If you'd like to read more about women here who have gone through D & Cs, you can go to the "Coping with Pregnancy Loss" Forum. I'm not sure, however, if you would feel comfortable going there, but I know that you will find several D & C threads in that forum.
Hope everything goes well with you. Please take care!
