Default intro and a question about secondary infertility

Hi all~ My name is Jen. I am 32 years old. I have been married to Tim since Dec 1999. We have 3 kids that we concieved quite easily. Kaleb is 5 1/2 yo, Jasmyn is almost 4yo and Mason is almost 2 yo. I really want to have another baby, but I am not ovulating. I just went to the Dr and he diagnosed me with PCOS. He mentioned Metformin, but wanted to get some blood tests done before actually prescribing itto me.

So does Met work to bring back your AF/Ovulation? Is there any hope of me getting pregnant WITHOUT clomid?

I am so scared that I won't be able to get pregnant.

Any thoughts?

I have conceived without clomid once, but needed it with the second child. The metformin helps keep the cysts from forming and that can be enough for some people. I had to be on the highest dosage (2000) veryday for almost two years before conceiving naturally. With the second child I took clomid for four months and conceived. Good luck.

Well, it really just depends. I conceived my first naturally, but did injections to have my second. Either way, GOOD LUCK!

Isn't is just wierd how we can have a kid or two or three w/ no problems only to have our cycle stop and be diagnosed with PCOS? Does a pregnancy "set it off" or what?

Metformin is all I needed to have my first child. That being said it was 2000mg of Met.

I completely understand the worry since I have also been dx'd with low thyroid since DS, and the dr's are convinced we'll have to be on clomid with the metformin.

Metformin is to help get your periods back which with getting your period helps you to ovulate. I think Metforming is a wonderful medication. I have dropped 10lbs and feel great and also had my first normal cycle in May. I wish you the best of luck, and I thought I should mention, we have been ttc #2 for almost 5 yrs with no luck, but I have only been on Metformin for a month. So don't get discurouged. It will happen. We are all here for you. Have a great day!!

Thanks for your comments ladies. I did finally hear back from Dr. He made the official DX of PCOS with IR. He is putting me on Met ER 500mg. I will go pick it up tomorrow I think. No AF yet for me either I am on day 3 of the Provera.

GRRRRRR I wish this was easier. I really took for granted how easily I got pregnant before. Even with 2 m/c I still was able to concieve again right away. I am so frustrated.
