Default Introducing... new sprouts!!!!

Yesterday I was combing a conditioner through my hair and I noticed NEW SPROUTS OF HAIR all over the crown of my head!!!!!!!!

I never comb my hair like this (it's wavy/curly), so maybe it's been a month or two since it has been growing, I don't know. But they are 1/2 inch to 1 inch long!!!! (yes I took out the ruler to measure - ha, ha)

*~~*JUMPING UP AND DOWN*~~*

That's terrific, Maureen! You must be really pleased.

Was your hair quite thin before you noticed these sprouts of hair?

I notice that you use Saw Palmetto, and I'm going to go back on it soon, because the front of my hair is so thin now.

Well I guess thin is a relative term. My part was starting to noticeably widen. The crown is quite thin, but since my hair has a lot of body, when it is dry it is not really noticeable. As long as I don't part in middle. Then is it SCARY.

The sad thing is that I noticed my hair thinning 6 years ago, but several doctors thought I was nuts b/c my hair has always been thick. They chalked it up to "anxiety" or who knows what. But I knew I was losing more. I know my body. And then in past 2 years it's really become noticeable to me. And now the last dr. I saw finally admitted I was thinning.

So my advice to anyone is:
If you think it's thinning, it is.
Start treating it now and you will not regret it!

Thank you Lily,
I'm sure a large part was getting my diet under control, continuing to eat moderate low glycemic carb and losing 40 lbs.

I'm taking GNC standardized

Maureen,

In GNC's saw palmetto products, there is one called Fingerprinted Saw Palmetto. It is 500mg, and it suggested take 1 to 2 daily.

Do you know the difference between this one and the one you suggested ( yours is 160 mg ). I brought Fingerprinted one long time ago, but haven't started taking it. I'm wondering is this the correct one to take?

Thanks,

Li

Let's see... about 7 months I think total. But the last 10lbs took several months to come off, it slowed towards the end.

I starting taking long walks and doing general muscle conditioning (situps, pushups, squats, lunges, etc.) every other day. Then I moved onto walking at least 5 days a week for 30 minutes and learned to use some weights (just dumbbells). Longer walks on weekends. I picked up my pace as I got stronger. Now I alternate running for a couple minutes and then walk for a few minutes! Someday I want to just RUN!

Sometimes I would just have time to walk up and down my stairs at home for 10 minutes. But I made sure to do something every single day, even if it was just stretching. That really helped my mood.

I got some exercise videos and learned yoga. I have a step video I use every once in a while. I discovered some state park walking trails, that was fun. A friend of mine has a pool and I would go over and did laps until I was really tired. Variation in activity was the biggest key for me to keeping it going. While always having my walking route there to fall back on.

Go for it! Just say you are going to try for 2 weeks, I'll bet you'll see and feel a difference then that will keep you going. I didn't have a lot of faith in myself to tell you the truth. It was really hard to finally say, 'OK, this is the time I'm going to succeed,' when I hadn't succeeded before. But maybe I really finally totally got it that my mood and my HEALTH were direct consequences of my weight and lifestyle. And I could actually change things.

I can totally relate. What about your glucophage dosage as well? That seems low to me.

Please get the standardized. I don't know what fingerprinted means, and I don't think it's a general term, I think it's something GNC has only.
I believe the link in my signature labeled "more info. about Saw Palmetto" explains the need for it to be standardized.

Just because the pills are higher 500 mg. doesn't mean it contains the active compounds. I did hear of a study where several herbal pills were tested and they didn't contain ANY active compounds at all. None.

The 320mg/day of standardized form is the standard research dosage, so that is why I chose it. Although the book linked below suggested that 160mg/day is sufficient. I may taper down to that and see if things change.
