Default introduction !

Hi guys,
Just wanted to introduce myself and get some feedback on my situation. I'm 32 and have 3 children. The first one was just from met and I have twins from iVF. Anyway, I was diagnnosed in my early 20s and really had control over it. After the twins I gained a lot of weight. About a year after my insulin had rose to about 35 (I believe it suppose to be under 7!). I was taking met (2500mg) trying to conceive and avandia. Knowing how off my body was I deceded to put the brakes on ttc. So, I started working out, eating well, and losing weight. At the same time my hair started to shed. Actually it started before the life changes I was making. Finally after 6+months it seemed to slow down. At this point I was taking Yasmine only. I could see a lot of regrowth and was finally thinking I won this war. Boy was I wrong. I stopped taking the pill for 2 months just because I kept forgetting to pick it up. I picked up another pack and starting taking the pill again. Shortly after my hair started to shed again, badly. I paniced, when to the gyn, and he recommended to get off the pill. So the next month I stopped. Well, it was a disaster then. I couldn't stop crying it was so bad. I started taking spiro again (100mg) and then went back on the pill (this time othro tri cyclen lo) and taking met (1000mg). Now, if you're still reading, do you think the shedding started back up due to going off and on the pill? I did lose a lot of weight last year, about 80lbs., which is what the derm. thought was what caused my hair loss in the first place. But it's been over a year now, my general bloodwork is fine, insulin is down to 9.1 (still a bit elevated I think?), and I'm waiting for my day3 results. I eat very healthy and what started as an attempt to lose weight for health concerns turned into a job a a fitness instructor. So at this point I'm pretty healthy. I'm sorry this is so long. I just need to know what I can do to stop this before it really gets bad. I can't imagine teaching a class with no hair !
Thanks for reading!

I would like to offer my sincerest concerns for your situation. (((HUGS)))
I cannot offer any suggestions to the hair loss, as I do not suffer. All I can say is... when my mom went through Chemo for breast cancer, she sported the baldy. No one said anything to her about it. In fact, I was surprised at the number of strangers that asked her if she made a donation for wigs.

Good luck.

Yes.
You go on to the pill. Your body "sees" the extra estrogen and cuts back on or shuts down your natural estrogen production

You come off the pill but your natural estrogen production is either slow to start up, or starts up at a very much lower level than before or doesn't start up at all.

You go back on the pill and your body "sees" the extra estrogen and shuts down further on estrogen production

And so on.

The result is that your hormone balance becomes much more testosterone-dominated and if your skin has been sensitized to respond to testosterone (as that of a great many women has) you are likely to develop male pattern hair growth to a greater or lesser extent and that includes male-pattern balding.

The most realistic answer is probably a bonded hairpiece as you're in a situation in which you're particularly active physically.

I hope the bonded hairpiece works well for you and that it gives you relief from the constant worry.

I find it amazing how over the years I've come to think about things very differently. I used to be so embarrassed as a teenager about the fact that I had far heavier moustache growth than almost all the boys my age and had to shave every day. Now, on the other hand, I simply accept the fact that I have a moustache and beard and shave every day. Not only that, but DH accepts it without problem -- we normally shave together in the morning. And the kids accept it without problem. It doesn't seem to faze them to refer to my moustache and beard as such. And that, in turn, has helped me to accept it as a fact of life, not a guilty secret.

Thanks for the replies ladies! I am currently not at the point where I need any type of hairpiece. My thinning is mostly only noticable by me and those who remember my long, think hair. I am hoping to be able to slow it down since it stopped before until I foolishly forogt to pick up my pills! I had lots of regrowth that was already over a inch long! Now some of the new growth is coming out too Oh well, I'm trying to cope. It's not always easy. But I'm workin really hard on trying to not focus on it or count the hairs that fall out, etc. My other excess hair is really not an issue and spiro clears up the few strays I get. Its funny that my hair on my head is falling out and my excess hair hass improved from when I was a teen! I don't understand what's going on but I sure hope someone figures it out soon!
