Smile Introduction and thank you

Just found your site and browsed some posts. Pretty sure that I have PCOS and I had some tests run 6 years ago pre-BCPs (which helped a little). The nurse practitioner said the numbers were "borderline," but after reading your posts, I think they are probably squarely in PCOS territory, plus the physical symptoms (very infrequent periods, acne, unwanted hair). Total testosterone was 94 and DHEA-S was 471 (at age 22).

I stopped taking BCPs 11 weeks ago because we are "ready" to start TTC (but I'm pretty sure we'll have some issues). No AF yet. Have not been tested since I stopped BCPs and I figured that I need to wait a few months for everything to stablize. In the meantime I'm trying to find all new doctor's since we moved and put together a plan. New insurance starts in January, so we are picking one with better coverage because I'm betting there will be a lot of tests. Also trying to lose the weight I put on in the last year of grad school (currently 5'6" and 140, with a lot around the middle, which is new for me).

So thank you for all the great information - I am slowly working through it all so that I am prepared and informed when I start making doctor's appointments.

Thanks!

I must say that I think this website is absoultely wonderful! About a month ago my husband and I were having big problems. One thing I found he was worried about was the fact that I never know when I will get a period. Usually I would get one but after I stopped taking my BCP (in May) I didn't have a period until July. From July I didn't have a period until Oct. I agreed to go to the doctor. (I always dread it.) One of the first things out of her mouth after she came into the room was it sounds like you have PCOS has anyone talked to you about this before? Within the last month I have had more blood tests than I ever had in my life. She waited a month until she perscribed Metformin. It is only day 2 for me and after reading in the metformin forum, I will make sure to stay away from those foods. It was emotional reading through all of these threads. I feel so lucky having found this community of wonderful women!
