[b]Hi there. New here.
I've been painfully receiving electrolysis on my face for over a year now with little success. It hasn't improved much. After reading many posts on here about laser, I decided to get laser hair removal, so I called a few plastic surgeons.
One surgeon says he doesn't do laser because it's too painful and causes too much redness and swelling. He does a new procedure called IPL instead. It's like a lighter version of laser. Here's a link with some info about it:

It seems like a good idea. I hope it works. My appointment is in a few weeks and it'll cost about $150 a session - 4-8 times, every 2-3 weeks.
Has anyone else tried this?
Kristie,
If IPL is also known as the LYRA laser, then yes, I've tried it. All lasers are a little painful. It actually depends on how tough your hair is. For example, I tend to grow a coarse patch of hair on the right side of my chin. When the laser is used there, it is pretty painful, but when it's used on the left side of my chin, it hardly hurts because the hair is weaker on that side--there isn't much left. You can actually tell where the problem areas are by how much the laser hurts on that spot. If it hurts a lot, the hair will be tougher to get rid of. The laser feels like little hot rubberbands quickly snapping on your face. The redness is inevitable, but the length of time it lasts depends on how sensitive your skin is. My skin is VERY sensitive, so it takes a couple of hours, but my technician will always put some cream on my face after my session is done. Believe me, the pain and redness is worth it. I used to wax and pluck all the time. Now, all I have to do is tweeze a bit to get the loose hairs out, then, it doesn't come back for at least a month. Hope this helps a little : )
