I have just been diagnosed and have been thin all of my life. My GP has told me i may have a risk of developing diabetes only if i gain weight and doesn't think it necessary to test my IR, blod glucose, etc. The only thing I have noticed is a tiny pouch of fat on my stomach and becomig quite tired and irritable if I'm hungry and a crashing if I have an exces of sugar - could these be symptoms and should I insist - I'm not converned about the weight gain only the diabetes and management of my symptoms (hirsutism, hair loss and infertility - I do have regualr periods)

I have never been tested for IR either. My RE said the same thing as yours that I am only at risk if I gain weight. I definitly have the pooch belly also. I don't know if we should be tested or not though. If your worried you should ask him or see another RE. My biggest problem right now is infertility. I also have regular periods.

I am thin also with a belly and I am IR... my doc just did a serum insulin blood test...just drink some oj before the test you will be sick but it will show.. its just one blood drawn tube thats all....im on met now im feeling a little better just have to get this diet down and figure that out..
