Default IR/Diabetes T2 - what do you eat for breakfast?

I went to my GYN yesterday. Because of a YI, she decided that I should have my blood sugars checked again. Last year, they were normal but my glucose:insulin ratio was approaching the IR mark.
In the last 5 months, I have been watching what I eat. I have tried to limit my high sugar, low fiber carbs. After reading online, I found you should cut out all bread products. I usually will eat a whole wheat round roll with peanut butter, oatmeal, bran flakes, etc for breakfast. I try not to eat eggs all the time.

Any other suggestions on what I can eat for breakfast?

Well, I eat a small bowl of grape nuts cereal. I know it probably isn't the best thing in the world, but I like it and I add a half of a banana. Sometimes I eat a low fat yogurt and a piece of fruit. Other than that I will fix myself an egg and have some fruit. I hope this helps

Have you heard of Miracle Muffins These muffins are only 87 calories per muffin with 7 grams of fiber, 9 grams of protein and 3 grams of fat.

Getting more fiber into your diet can help manage your diabetes. According to the New England Journal of Medicine, "A high intake of dietary fiber, particularly of the soluble type, above the level recommended by the ADA, improves glycemic control, decreases hyperinsulinemia, and lowers plasma lipid concentrations in patients with type 2 diabetes."

Thanks for the reply. I do not live in the US so I do not get all the new up-to-date products down here. I do eat lots of fiber during the day, but not sure what to eat for breakfast.

You can do a slice of wheat bread with some sugar free jelly too. If I'm tired of the other things, then I do that.

Add some protein - yogurt or cottage cheese, maybe string cheese if you can find a low-fat one. Make sure any carb foods are also high fiber. The whole wheat roll may not have alot of fiber in it - check the label, or look for something that says it has bran in it.
By the way, your GYN deserves credit - many don't make the connection between YI and diabetes.

My tests came back fine so the YI was not tied to Diabetes. I am still watching my diet to be sure I do not intake too many "bad" carbs.

I was diagnosed with type two diabetes in July. I have been trying to control diabetes through diet and exercise and have been sucessful. I am very strict with my diet though. For breakfast I eat morning star farms sausage patties and either special k protein plus cereal or sugar free yogurt. The only bread i have found that I can eat without causing a blood sugar spike is ST jospehs flax seed pitas (i was going to post a link to the info on it but I am too new to do that apparently). The pitas are really soft and they taste like a wheat pita. I use them to make sandwiches, wraps, and as pizza crusts. One of the tricks I have learned for ensuring that I am never hungry is I make sure i have a protein with every meal/snack. For example I have an apple everyday with a teaspoon of peanut butter. I havent cut out carbs like an atkins diet and I have lost over 70lbs since being diagnosed.

I normally eat high-fiber cereal. On days when I am feeling less profoundly lazy, I will cook up an egg and some egg whites and warm up some FiberOne pancakes that I froze. I feel like I eat a decent breakfast for a college student. My roomies all eat Froot Loops and pizza for breakfast.

I eat prity much anything for breakfast - my fav is carnations breakfast drink added to a cup of 1% milk ... but corn pops is also a common BK for me ... neather of them effect my BG levels after wards and I am a type 2 diabetic "mostly diet controlled".

I've been having Rice Krispies with 1% milk, and banana slices in it. A few weeks ago I was on a fried egg kick lol....sometimes I have a Dannon Light n Fit Yogurt cup. Hmm, what else? Breakfast ham is a good low sugar alternative too, and lower fat than bacon and sausage. Basically, the dietician told me I wasn't eating enough carbs...go figure.

I LOVE my Red River cereal - it is not very proccessed at all. It is a hot cereal though and the texture isn't smooth. You make it with water and to cool it down I add a tablespoon of milk (I'm a 1% girl when I actually drink milk) and I cut half a banana into it to add that sweet taste.

I eat eggs, do you not like them? If you don't like them its one thing but if you don't eat them because you think they are bad for you, that is completely wrong. Eggs are incredibly good for you, including the yolks. There are incredibly diverse egg recipes, you dont just have to have scrambled with nothing. You can add veggies, cheese, make souffles and fritattas. If you really cant stand that taste though, low fat cottage cheese with an apple and almonds is a great low carb high fiber breakfast. You can also try a whey protein shake in the morning, along with cottage cheese.

Egg whites are the leanest source of protein. I like to eat 1 egg plus a couple of whites scrambled with turkey sausage and stick that on a slice of whole wheat toast and drizzle on a bit of Smucker's sugar free syrup. Yeah. It is weird, but so am I. It is one of my FAVORITE breakfasts.
