IR Diet Friendly Smoothie So many of the smoothie recipes call for way too much fruit for one meal or snack on the IR Diet or for someone watching their sugar and carbs, so I've played around with what I've got in the house, and made up this one. If you have other ideas for IR Diet Smoothies, I'd love for you to post them.
1/4 cup frozen mixed fruit (Kroger Smoothie Fruit - strawberries, pineapple and mango)
1/4 cup frozen peaches
1/4 of a frozen banana (freeze already cut up in sandwich baggies, and just grab one from the freezer).
4 oz Light Cran-Raspberry Juice
1/2 cup skim milk
1/2 cup lowfat plain yogurt
2 Tbsp of your favorite Lo-Carb protein powder
Blend together and enjoy.
By my calculations using Vanilla Biochem Ultimate Lo-Carb Whey Protein, this has 34 gms carbs and 20 gms protein. The carbs may be as low as 28 - 30 if you use yogurt with active cultures because the active cultures "eat" the carbs in yogurt and can make them as low as 4 - 8 gms per 8 oz of yogurt.
I don't care for really sweet drinks, especially in the morning, so this is plenty sweet for me. You may want to add sweetener to taste. |
