I'm glad this was bumped. It's a good summary of a great plan. I remember how great I felt when I did this plan a couple of years ago. It's time to dig out that book and try again.

So, I'm still a little bit confused... what happens if I have 14g of carbs but say 10g of protein in one sitting? Is it ok as long as I have at least 1/2 the amount of protein to carbs?

I've been lurking here forever, but I seldom post. I bought the IR diet book over a year ago, and I am just now trying it out. I couldn't find a comprehensive "IR diet support" thread on here anywhere - am I missing it, or is there not one? I'm able to maintain my weight (a rather high weight, though) at a steady level by generally eating whatever I want and not exercising, at least for the time being (I'm only 23 - I know that won't last forever!), but I want my weight significantly lower so I'm hoping any little change will make a difference. I've been trying to stick to the IR diet plan for 4 days now, and I'm finding it challenging. Limiting the carbs is hard enough (1/2 cup of cereal?! seriously?!), but I'm finding that I end up overdoing the protein. Not by a whole lot, but enough that it's not a perfectly balanced ratio. I'm hoping that as long as I'm not overdoing the carbs, it doesn't have to be completely perfect every time. I don't cook and don't own a stove/oven, so I am skeptical about my ability to keep any dietary changes in effect long-term. Still, I'm giving it a shot.

I think as long as the carbs are under control that is the main thing.

And I have found you an IR buddy thread on the diet and exercise buddies forum

Here's the link

I have to count every single carb I put into my mouth per my Endocrinologist.
35gm for breakfast, 45gm for lunch & dinner, 15 for a snack.
Basically 140 carbs a day @ 1500 cals.
It seems I am very carb sensitive. I have to see a nutritionist as I have been consuming all carbs and no protein/veggies and feeling like death!
How long have you been using this book?

Is the best place to get a list of foods and their values in the book itself or just off the labels or off of the internet? Is there a cookbook or other guide to suggest yummy pairings?
