I know people have had success with this diet in terms or weight loss, but has anyone had success with this diet and regulating the cycle?
I don't really follow this diet specifically but I know that when I stop eating carbs alone, I tend to have less bloating and gas and my PCOS belly goes down quite a bit. Hope that helps.
Wow. I've been on SouthBeach struggling for the last month and a half. I am indeed down about 6 lbs in a month but more due to the 2+ hours of exercise a day I have been killing myself with. I should mention there is NO strength training...until I discovered today that I need to add it in. Sorry to get off subject, but I am very glad to get more information about this lifestyle and make some changes to help this whole low-carb thing become more DO-ABLE for me!! I understand that this is an experiment and should I plateu or gain I may have to cut them back out but knowing there is another concept for us out there is enlightening for me!! Thanks guys!

As an aside, as a runner/athlete, I find that this diet is the best for the extended workouts I do (long-distance running, tempo runs, and interval training) as well as the days of weight training.
Any running coach will tell you that linking and consuming enough proteins are the key to helping build muscle and endurance.
Im kinda depressed after reading this but thankful that its posted. its very informative but i cant help but feel like more work has been added to me plate to figure out whats what in the foods i eat.

Hey, for those of you you mentioned it was hard to keep track of nutritionals, here's a nifty little gadget: My mom got me a food scale as a present (she got my old one from a lab I used to work in) that has a database of thousands of food items. It calculates actual hard numbers by weight. That way you don't have to estimate how big an item is or go looking online. (Although there are some excellent online nutrition sites - I like nutritiondata.com because you can create a recipe and it will print out an actual nutritional label for you.) The one she got me was the Salter Kitchen Nutritional Scale. I've seen it and many similar models on amazon. It's nice because it is cordless and therefore easier to move around on the countertop to where I need it. It helps keep you honest. Or at least not deceive yourself! LOL Good luck everyone, I've always hated calorie counting and keeping track but it may be the way to go. People who journal and keep track have better success rates. *sigh* One more challenge for me.
oooo thank you for this. yeah im working on the journal thing too. sigh

The low-GI food list is a good place to get information too. My dietician gave it to me and there is a lot of good stuff on it. Its really a life style change, but its very hard at times. Especially if you go out to eat and someone orders nauchos or bruchetta, I alsohave a hard time eating greasy food - even when its not deep fried, bruschetta with a lot of cheese on it for example is very hard for my body!
I read all the posts on this thread today and I went and purchased The Insulin Resistant Diet book. I read the whole book this evening and plan to start tomorrow.
Thank you all for your posts and information. After reading them all I decided that this not only makes perfect sense to me, it is something I can actually live with. I'm going to try to find one of those ticker things to add to my signature so you can all see how I do.
Thanks again for all the info! I will check back regularly to see if there is more info from any of you and to let you know how it is going for me.
