Bec,
The numbers you indicated are blood glucose levels, not insulin. The test you had was a glucose tolerance test. The 10-14 levels you mention as normal range are for a fasting insulin test. Your bg numbers are very high, indeed, and this test should be repeated. If you were to get similiar results, your diagnosis would be diabetes, not just insulin resistance. Here is a blurb about that: Quote: |
A person has diabetes when oral glucose tolerance tests show that the blood glucose level at 2 hours is equal to or more than 200 mg/dl. This must be confirmed by a second test (any of the three) on another day. There has recently been discussion about lowering the upper value to 180 mg/dl to diagnose more people with mild diabetes to allow earlier intervention and hopefully prevention of diabetic complications.

Did you just go back on Met, or have you been back on it for awhile? If you have been on it for awhile, I'm surprised you doc didn't prescribe an additional drug, such as Avandia or Actos, to help lower your blood sugars. If you just got back on it after your visit, then there's a good chance that Met alone can get your levels normalized. I am diabetic and on Met only for two years and doing well.
