I started Met about a year ago, and a lower carb diet in 2002. I have not noticed thicker hair, but my hair is def. not falling out like it was. Before I was loosing a brush full of hair a day, now it's just a few hairs a day.
Since I don't have any spots where it's noticable, I have never asked my doc for anything for it. I didn't even know it was a problem, though my Mom swears my hair was much thicker when I was a kid. I thought since I have really long hair, that's why there was a lot in my brush each day. Now I know it was part of the PCOS.
Arbonne is a brand of skin & hair care products sold like Mary Kay or Beauticontrol (individual sales people out of their home). They have a website where you can shop online. http://www.arbonne.com/ I may have heard about a hair care product they have that is similar to Nioxin.
I didn't even know I had PCOS until my early 40s when I suddenly gained 30 pounds, my hair that had always been extremely thick started thinning, my temples started balding, and acanthosis nigricans appeared under my arms. I had always had excess hair, but my doctors just brushed it off whenever I mentioned it. When I started taking Met, the hair came at my temples, and my hair got thicker again (but not as thick as it used to be). I'm not sure Met helped my excess hair. I tried Spiro prescribed by my Gyn, but my GP tweaked my BP meds to compensate for the diurectic in Spiro and my BP went sky high. He just didn't want to fool with trying to get them to work together, and encouraged me to drop the Spiro. Most people say they have good luck with Met and Spiro combined on stopping any new growth of excess hair.
