Hi everyone! Sorry for all the posts in random places; I'm still really new to all this and am trying to find out all of the information I can in order to help myself as much as possible.
So, I was diagnosed based pretty much upon my clinical symptoms -- hirsutism and absent menses. So right now, as I have mentioned, the only med that has been prescribed to me is Min-Ovral 28, to help restore a more-or-less normal cycle. Obviously diet and exercise are going to be a major part of my treatment as well.
Now, I've been reading about insulin resistance and how it often appears in tandem with PCOS. There is a history of Type II diabetes in my family -- on my mother's side, I have three uncles who have it, plus my grandmother and my mother both have been cautioned that they are "pre-diabetic". On my father's side, I have two uncles with diabetes. All of my diabetic relatives have developed it in adulthood.
Now, up to this point all of my fasting glucose bloodwork has come back perfectly normal. My last bloodwork was done in early April and came back fine. However, now I'm wondering if I should ask for a fasting glucose tolerance test to be done, to check for the presence of IR. From what I've been reading, the regular old blood glucose testing would not be sufficient to check for insulin resistance.
So now, for your advice. My next appointment with my gyno isn't until February 6 (three-month follow-up). Should I wait until then and ask him about the IR testing at that point? Or should I simply go to my campus clinic and ask for a lab referral to have the testing done before that, so that I can have the results forwarded to my gyno for my follow-up appointment?
All of this is making my head spin! *lol* I'm really glad to finally have a concrete diagnosis, but the aftermath is pretty confusing, so any help that you could provide would make my life a lot easier!

It might be good to go to the clinic and forward the results to your gyno. Although a gyno would probably just refer you to an endo to treat the insulin resistance. (Or most would anyway.)
You are right, blood sugar/glucose scores are not enough to test for IR. I get my C-peptide tested for IR.

It's a test one of my doctors order to measure it. My endo orders a separate one as well.
