Default An IrishCatholic lass looking for a pen pal

I'm the last of the full fledge Irishman here in USA. My maiden name is Connelly. The only thing that I truely know is that my grandfather's uncle was a famous football player over in Ireland or Scotland. His name was Bill Connelly, my grandfather was named after him. I'm only the 2nd generation of my family over her. I've heard such lovely stories of Ireland. It has been a dream of my to some day go over and visit, and see some of the things my grandfather told me about. I also know that his family migrated to Scotland too. I know that I have some relatives in Scotland also. He always talked about going back for a visit but never made it before he died. He was 11 years of age when he and the rest of his family arrived on Ellis Island. I really would like to converse with anyone from the old country, as my grandfather called it, there is so much I would like to hear about. Rosemary Francis Connelly Prample

I lived in Wash D.C for a while and was always so amazed at how americans are so interested in there hertiage. Both my parents are Irish, though we live in England now. Only me and my siblings talk with an english accent out of a massive family. I have over 40 1st cousins and dont get me started on all the 2nd and 3rd cousin. Especially now we all growing up and having kids of our own (well those of us that can anyway) I wonder why I have PCOS when it is supposed to be heridriaty (ah spelling!) My extended family is huge!!!
Anyway I go to ireland all the time, Just got back from New Years there. It is beautiful and they do all drink guiness. It is probably everything you ever been told, But it is also war torn form years of terriost acts and the political views are evident in many towns and villages. The segregation is as bad as ever, But if you go for a holiday you can close your eyes to it and pretend it aint there. It rains alot and is misty and foggy but that only adds to the beauty as it descends over the mountain landscape in parts of Ireland. You should visit. It aint that far and you get really good deals on flights. Stay in a B&B to meet the people. I always stay with family, but if you dont know yours there then B&B is as good as it gets,They charge reasonably aswell. Good Luck

As an Irish cyster here I have to say that not all Irish people drink Guiness. My dh cant stand it!

However, I have to agree that Ireland is a great country to live in but our cost of living is extremely high.

Ireland was known as the isle of Saints and Scholars and it is true that we as a race are extremely friendly.

Maybe you come back again for Paddy's Day!

Helen
