I was diagnosed with PCOS 2 years ago by a general Doctor after I complained about a brown patch on my neck and she asked me a bunch of questions. I was immediately put on Trinessa (OrthoTricycline). And It helped enourmously. Well, that's the extent of my medical insurance and my treament. Things were going pretty well, I would get my period every month, 3 days after starting the green pill, but recently they've been irregular. I've gotten my period a week early, I've goten it a week late. I'm very confused as to why the change and what how to take the pill when my period is irregular. Do I just keep taking it going by what day I should be on or do I go by my period. Sorry for the questions, I'm trying to get some money together so I can see a proper OBGYN, but I appreciate any input you have.
Irregular periods on the pill shouldn't happen. The bleeding you're experiencing is most likely breakthrough bleeding, which is common. Keep taking the pills as you normally would, regardless of the bleeding.
How long have you been on the pills? It's normal to experience breakthrough bleeding on BCP's in the first 3 months before you body adjusts itself to the hormones.
Have you taken the pill at the same time everyday religiously? Have you missed any days? I'm VERY sensitive to the pill and even if I take the pill a few hours after I did the previous day, I will breakthrough bleed. If you're not meticulous with taking the pill at the same time everyday, you could have problems. I hope this helped!

Thank you very much for your info. It was very helpful, however do you have any idea, why I would be getting my period late sometimes? I take BCP pretty consistently. These troubles are all new, like I've said, I've been on BCP for 2 years now.
Thanks so much
You're very welcome. Glad I could help. How late are you getting your period? Are you not bleeding during your inactive week and just bleeding at other times?
There could be other problems if you're not bleeding during your inactive week and bleeding while on the actual pills. I would recommend you see your Dr. about that.

Have you been on the same pill for that 2 years or have you changed them?
There are sveral things that can effect your periods like that.
One example is beginning symptoms I had of endometreosis. Read up on it to see if it sounds familar with your symptoms.
The pill(Yasmin) sent my internal organs into over drive. I suspect I developed the endo after my tubal. Then I developed "PCOS" and was put on the pill. Things gradually got worse.
Turns out there is another syndrome the doctors avoid telling anyone about.
It is called tubal ligation syndrome. Same markers of PCOS.
Any abdominal surgery you have can trigger endo.
So read up and see if any of this fits your situation.
Take care,
Patty

If I take mine late at all it will lead to breakthrough bleeding. Also, I don't know if this applies to you, but the low dose BCP can be too low for someone who has too much weight on them. HTH!

I had this problem as well when I was taking OrthoTriCycline. It worked for awhile, then just all of a sudden I was irregular again. My doc didn't explain why it happened, just changed my pills. Since you don't have ins., you might be able to go to planned parenhood or something similar and get checked out. Just a thought. Good luck!
