Irregular periods while on BCP's?

Hello everyone. I originally came to this site as my sister was diagnosed with PCOS. The more I read, the more I'm convinced I have this also.

Anyway, my question is this. I was on BCP's for a year and a half, and recently went off of them as they were making me somewhat insane with mood swings and weight gain. I noticed toward the end of my time on them, I started having irregular periods again. In the beginning when I started them, I had a period every month. (Before I started, I'd have a period every 2-3 months.) Near then end, I was having a period every 1 1/2 months. I imagine if I'd stayed on them, the time between periods would have gotten even longer.

Have any of you experienced this? Does that mean the drug would have to be switched as it was becoming ineffective?

Just curious. Any responses are welcomed and much appreciated.

I also had irregular cycles, regardless of which brand pill I was on, I had been on six different pills by the time I finally quit taking them and sought the assistance of an RE.

If you're having problems with your pills, this is something that should definitely be discussed with your doctor. My ob/gyn refused to give hormone tests despite my increasingly odd female problems and I finally asked my general practicioner to refer me to someone - he said an RE.
