Question Issues with Low Thyroid?

Hi Ladies! I was just dx with low thyroid and my dr was concerend my blood level was 20 and the "norm" is are 3 or 4. (I'm not really surprised since every females on both side of my parents have under active thyroid).

O.k I have some questions:

1.My dr menetioned that if a lady has under activet hyroid.. the egg can't develop properly is that true? How does the thyroid effect the egg develop? Anyone got any links/info - I wanna try to understanding all of this stuff

2. I thought there were side effects for under active thyroid (i.e tired). I don't feel that tired, except @ bed time (of course).

It's funny that I was TTC for 2 yrs w/ another clinic and that Dr never picked up on any bloodwork that I had any underactive thyroid. Then when I switched to this clinic, the Dr was doing all the bloodwork and test b 4 he would prescrive anything. This new clinic was shocked that my thyroid was so high!

The dr said "once" I get pg, I can't stop taking the meds for the underactive thyroid and once he reviews the bloodwork today, he may have to up the dose.

Look forword to any insight..

Thanks!
Janet

I wanted to ask you a question. I had a high thyroid level too, and she is rechecking it. I am trying to figure out , before my appointment, if I have hypo or hyper. I am so confused. The test I had was Free Thyroxine Index and it came back at 13.9 (range was 6-10.5) Is that the test you had? I am being tested for recurring pregnancy losses. Sorry I couldn't answer your question As you can see I am clueless.

Hi Sugar Plum.. I was actually dx w/ under active thyroid. I just know it was a blood test I had (I don't know the name of it... sorry)
If I get pg, this would be my 1st pg.

Sorry to hear of your recurring pg losses.
J.

oceanblue,
I have hypothyroidism and my fertility dr will not start fertility treatments until my thyroid is under control. With an active thyroid condition, you are at high risk of having a baby with heart, brain and kidney defects. I found this web site very informative:
