Its been awhile... Update & maybe a prayer or two?
Hi Cysters.
Its been awhile since I've been active on the boards here, but hopefully some of ya'll will remember me. Basically I've been extremely busy with school since moving to Austin last August. I'm doing very well in school and even tho its been tough, I'm having a blast.
Joshua is still at OSU and doing very well. He actually made his hometown paper on their list of OSU honor students. I'm very proud of him. He's looking for a part-time job now so I'm hoping he can find something.
Thankfully he we were able to spend about 4 weeks straight together recently because he had a month off for Christmas break. He came down for 2 weeks to Austin and stayed with me, but we didn't get a lot of time together due to the fact that I had work and school and about 11 or more hours of my day were taken. But I did get to come home to him at night and home for late lunch, so that was nice. He flew back to Ohio Christmas Eve and I flew up to Ohio the Tuesday after Christmas. I got to meet the rest of his family (father's side of the family and the rest of his mother's side of the family). It was good to get that out of the way and everyone seemed to like me. His Grandmother later told his mother (she passed the word on) that I am "the girl for Joshua". Talk about making me happy! Anyhow, then we drove back down to Columbus because he had to start back classes and I flew home the Sat. before school started for me.
So now we're back in school, in separate cities - in separate states - across the country and I think its been very difficult for us to get back into the swing of things, and its only been a week... We're just really having a hard time being apart. We've been a couple for two years now and all but about ten weeks of it have been long distance. I am not complaining because I am very grateful for the opportunities he and I both have with our education right now, but I'm struggling with just the day-to-day without him. I feel like I am lost without him sometimes and its just getting to me. The longer I'm without him, the more difficult it becomes... I know we're both working to be together eventually... Its just getting harder and harder.
My plans are basically to finish out school, graduating in August and look for a job in Columbus and move there while he finishes his undergrad degree at OSU. But that is totally dependent on if I can get a job there and can afford to live there. If not, I'll probably look for work in San Antonio and Austin so that I can be close to my mother who lives in San Antonio.
Basically I just feel the need to pray a lot lately. I'm struggling emotionally and I feel depression knocking at my door. I'm trying to be strong and keep myself from wallowing in self pity because I dont like who I am when I go to that place and it affects other things I'm trying to do... I understand that praying in numbers is helpful so those of you who pray... Please include me and Joshua. Not because anything major is happening... Just something to lift our spirits and help us remember what we're working so hard for.
Also, my sister is looking for a job since her position has been out-sourced to India. She's currently training her replacement. However, she is actively looking for a new job and actually is flying out for an interview tomorrow. Please send a little prayer up for her that her trip is a safe one and that the right job will come along when its supposed to. God works in His own time and sometimes we're not patient enough... But I believe He will always take care of His children, even when they don't believe in Him.
Thank you for reading my rambles. Hope to be around here more in the future. Much love to you and yours and may God bless you.
Amber

Amber, Glad to hear from you! Thrilled that you are doing well. Chin up. Read your quote by SARAH MCLACHLAN and keep moving forward. Do whatever you have to do to get through this time of separation. I've been there, with hubby and I living in different states at different points in our marriage and him being on long deployments with the Navy. All of this time, if it doesn't break you, WILL make you stronger. Think of TIME as CEMENT to your foundation as a couple. Best wishes!!

Thanks so much ladies. I am doing what I have to do, I just don't want to become depressed in the meantime. After this 6 week class (on the 2nd week of it now) I only have 2 more classes before my externship. I'm remarkably close to finishing so I'm just trying to look ahead. Thanks for all the support.

Hey Amber, we've missed you! (((hugs))) I used to tell Matthew that if we were going to spend the rest of our lives together, how long we waited to get married was not important. Same with you guys.... All this time apart will seem like nothing once you are spending your lives together. I know it's really awful right now. Other than that, I'm glad to find you're doing well.
Thanks Laura and Stacie. So good to see old friends are still around. I'm definitely trying to look forward and not get totally stuck in the now, as that would just depress me. One day all this will definitely have been worth it.
And thanks for asking about my Mom! She's doing very well... Her job is busy and challanging but thankfully less stressful for her than previous jobs have been so that's easier on her health. She's working a lot of hours lately, but hopefully that's calming down a bit now. But this job is such a blessing for her and we're both very grateful to God for opening up this opportunity for her.
Thanks for everything ladies. Ya'll are the best!

Amber, I was just thinking about you yesterday while I was looking around the board. We never "talked" much, but I read many of your posts about you and Joshua. It's so good to see you around here (((hugs)))
I remember you! I know we didn't directly chat or anything, but I did read a good number of your posts and am familiar with your story.
Nice to see you back and stay strong--there's light at the end of the tunnel. May this be the biggest obstacle you and Joshua deal with in your lives together.

I've been wondering how the chef to be is doing! I remember the days of separation from my now DH and it was so easy to get down about it. Those days seemed so long without him there. I will pray that God will help both of you feel sustained during this time of being apart. One quote I have heard that really might help you now is: If you can just go on and live without them and be OK you know you shouldn't marry them. The deep longing you have to have Joshua by your side is painful, but a good sign that your relationship has a lot going for it.
