Talking Its good to find someone else

Hi, I am 27 years old and have been diagnosed with PCOS for about 5 years, although here in the UK doctors are not quite as upto date as in the US. I have been offered the pill in varying forms but noone has really given me any hope. I have recently had more blood work done and discovered that my FSH is now 27. Both my ovaries are affected by the PCOS and I'm beginning to lose the battle I think. My doctor has refused to give me metformin on the grounds that I don't need it and simply apologised to me saying there was very little he could do at this moment.
I have been having homeopathic treatment, hands on healing, herbal supplements until I'm blue in the face for the last 5 years and don't seem to be getting anywhere. I have also given up caffeine, alcohol, dairy products, but have still not quite managed to give up chocolate or biscuits.
I would love to have children but am rapidly losing hope. I would really appreciate it if anyone has any advice or anything else that may be of some help.

Hi Steffi,

welcome to Soulcysters! I hope you will find this site as helpful and empowering as I have.

Sorry your doctor doesn't see the light and won't prescribe Metformin. There is an herbal supplement/ treatment you can take that will hopefully have a similar effect. It is called Chromium, and I'm sure the cysters on the Alternative Remedies board will be able to give you more information. You can also run a search through the Research Articles section, which is highly recommendable and very informative. I personally don't believe in the pill as a treatment, in my opinion it only masks symptoms instead of making things better, but that is everyone's own choice.

Really the best thing you can do now is to start reading. There are quite a few things that might help you. For one thing, a different diet. Less cookies, more milk. I have had great success with the Insulin Resistance diet. (You'll find some good info on it in the Diet/Exercise forum).

Bottom line: PCOS is bad, but it's not the end of the world. If your doctor won't help you and you cannot go to a different one, take matters in your own hands. It's your life, your health.

It cleared my brain fog, brought back af, helped me lose weight, made me o' again, and helped me get pregnant. My first Metformin miracle is now 3 years old, my second (surprise one) arrived December11!

Default Thank you

Thanks for replying to my post thingy.

I really appreciate what you said and will definately look into those research tings. Still finding my way around the cysters site but will look into the diet stuff.
I feel like I've been tyring so many different diets that I'm losing faith in it. I get real frustrated with it all because I see other people eating whatever they like and start to feel bitter about the whole thing. I guess I just need to have more patience.

Thanks again

Steffi
