Im thinking about an IUD. My husband and I lost our 1st baby 5-27-03. Neither of us are ready to jump in we are still both young me I will be 23 9-29 and he's 24. So we are trying to get things in order. But im curious to see what people say about it. I like the idea of no hormones. Im really trying to get my cycles normail and the metfomin is helping so I dont want to get on a hormone pill again and not be able to get regular on my own. I do want kids. But i really need to sort out my cycles. But I really dont want to get pg again, not for at least 2 more years. I have problems with sprmcides so my options are limited. Please give info and advice. Thanks a bunch!

Hey, I have had a copper-T IUD for 5 years now, and love it. Pills didn't work for me (depression & crazy) and depo ruined my life (IMO depo = PCOS) to where I am now. So I got the copper-T IUD and never looked back. The only thing I notice is more frequent vaginal infections of various types, but that didn't happen UNTIL PCOS showed up in full force, almost 2 years after the IUD. (some symtpoms showed up 2 days after depo shot and remained, others are recent, came about with time). Since you're married and have been pregnant before, you shouldn't have trouble finding a doctor to give one to you (I did--I've never been pregnant and was unmarried at the time). Oh, and I got bad menstural cramps the first year, but I'm used to them now. Anything beat the pill, which made me suicidally depressed. Emai me if you want, sorry for spelling badly, gt7941a@yahoo.com

Never wrestle with a pig. You both get dirty, and the pig likes it.
I also had a copper IUD and loved it! I would recommend it to anyone! Unfortunately, I expelled mine after about six months. It is very rare for this to happen, but there's a 30% chance of expelling it after you've expelled it once.
In case anyone reads this thread is thinking about the Mirena IUD--DON'T! I did some research on that and found that the hormones used in it are *highly* androgenic.
Now I am thinking about trying it again, but I'm not sure when I might like to have another baby, so I'll be using the diaphragm for a couple months till I make up my mind.

Check with your doctor and see if you can get if put in anytime. I was having severe PCOS problems and not having a regular period at all when I had mine done, I wasn't on my period when we did it and it wasn't that bad.
((hugs))

Sid,
Soo sorry you're having these problems! Quite honestly, I no longer trust doctors to know what is good for me, which is why I'm doing my own research.
It doesn't mention mirena, but I checked the product's websites and the hormone types there.

Sid-
My personal opinion is that you should have it out. My hirtism got a lot worse while I was on an androgenic pill years ago and it never got any better, kwim?
Have you tried Yasmin? I had to stop it for depression but otherwise my acne, hirutism, weight gain, irregular periods all got better on it. I might also suggest Nuvaring. It has a very small dose of both estrogen and progesterone, plus, since it doesn't go through your whole system, I think it might affect you less.
((hugs)) Sorry you're having so many problems. I might recommend finding a new doc, though. I think it's very irresponsible of them to put a woman w/ PCOS on a highly androgenic form of birth control.
I just had the Mirena put in last April. Went off Micro - Nor. SInce I was done nursing and had my 4th baby I didn't want to get pregnant. My gyno thought the Mirena was a good idea. I had really never discussed any of my symptoms with her.
My hair shedding really started bothering me recently. DUH - right after I went on to Mirena.
Now what?? I told the RE that I had an IUD in. I will be starting Yasmin, Spiro and Gluco XR.
Hey jus a tid bit on the heacy bleeding with the IUD. I work with a women who was in Ob/GYn for 23 years. She told me when I asked her about the IUD that my periods could worsen and be heavier and longer for up to 3-4 mo after having it put in. Hope that helps.

I had the Mirena put in back in April and my gyno did say there would be spot bleeding for a few months. I've definitely had that, but sometimes I'm not sure if it is actually a period or just spotting.
Hopefully, you're right and the spiro will help. My RE said I didn't have to have it taken out. I figure she's thinking the medications will compensate.
Thanks for letting me know what your doc said. My RE(I have to laugh typing that because I have 4 kids and don't want any more) said the same your doc told you.
I love having the mirena in. It is so much easier. I went off bcp's because I was tired of taking them. So it was funny to have to go back on them, but my hormones are out of whack and I need to.
Good luck. Keep me posted. feel free to private message me or e-mail me. lizzie64@optonline.net
