Default IUD vs. BCP?

While the local news tonight did a story about the new "no AF ever" BCP, they did another one about the IUD and how great an option it is now for some women...They said the IUD is more effective than BCP and relatively safe.

I know some cysters use the IUD as treatment for PCOS, so I started thinking about it. My BF would like to stop using condoms someday since I use BCP anyway but I get nervous not having a million different barriers...so I'm curious, is an IUD really more effective than BCP?

Thumbs up iud

Didn't I respond to this one? An IUD, statistically, is more effective birth control. It does not treat PCOS IMO because #1 the copper T does not have hormones #2 the Mirena only has progestin by itself, which worsens IR and does not stop or regulate ovulation. It only changes the lining of the uterus & changes CM and sperm mobility, etc. Only 40% of women stop ovulating on progestin-only birth control. Now the third IUD, Progestasert, has real progesterone which does not worsen IR and tends to balance the excess estrogen of PCOS. That might help PCOS symptoms.
But it has to be replaced yearly.

I had a copperT for 8 years and loved it but it neither helped nor hurt my PCOS.

Never wrestle with a pig. You both get dirty, and the pig likes it.
