iud Didn't I respond to this one? An IUD, statistically, is more effective birth control. It does not treat PCOS IMO because #1 the copper T does not have hormones #2 the Mirena only has progestin by itself, which worsens IR and does not stop or regulate ovulation. It only changes the lining of the uterus & changes CM and sperm mobility, etc. Only 40% of women stop ovulating on progestin-only birth control. Now the third IUD, Progestasert, has real progesterone which does not worsen IR and tends to balance the excess estrogen of PCOS. That might help PCOS symptoms.
But it has to be replaced yearly.
I had a copperT for 8 years and loved it but it neither helped nor hurt my PCOS.
