Just found this journal article (the abstract, at least... full text link is broken). See bolded conclusion at the bottom. I'm not sure how statistically legit it is (because they're comparing a group of 50 women, who limited their activity, to 10 women, who didn't limit activity...), and also, it wasn't an intervention study... so maybe the women who limited their activity were really nervous/stressed/on multiple IVFs... but anyway, whatever the flaws, if there were differences, they weren't big enough differences to observe in this study
Comparative study of daily activities of pregnant and non-pregnant women after in vitro fertilization and embryo transfer.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: The purposes of this study were to explore daily activity following embryo transfer (ET) in women who had undergone in vitro fertilization (IVF), and to compare the differences between pregnant and non-pregnant cycles. METHODS: This prospective survey was conducted in a medical center in northern Taiwan. Subjects were women who had completed one IVF cycle. Using a structured questionnaire, the subjects were asked whether they had changed their normal daily activities during the 2-week waiting period following ET. Data were collected on the day of ET and on the day of pregnancy testing before the outcome of the treatment was known. After the results of the pregnancy test were known, subjects were divided into pregnantand non-pregnant groups, with 30 subjects in each group. RESULTS: Of the 60 participants, 56 reported that they had tried to rest in bed for more than 2 hours following ET, and 54 reported that they limited their self-care activity on the day of ET.During the 2-week waiting period following ET, 55 walked at a slow pace, 51 limited their social activity, 47 avoided the use of stairs, 45 limited their self-care activity, and 40 adjusted their work load. However, a comparison of daily activity variables between the two groups yielded no significant differences. CONCLUSIONS: Most subjects reported that they restricted their daily activities following IVF/ET, even though their doctors suggested that they return to their normal routines. Bed rest was not correlated with successful IVF.

I didn't do bedrest after IVF and was successful. My doc just said take it easy for a day or so after transfer. I think he actually told us it didn't make a difference but they told people that because patients wanted reassurance.
Mine was on a Friday, so I just chilled over the weekend. I went to acu directly after transfer and then we stopped at the grocery store on the way home.
My ET was on a Thursday in the mid-morning, and I took the rest of Thursday off work and then took all of Friday. I had an obligation on Saturday and Sunday, but rested on those days as much as I could. I went back to work on Monday. My IVF was successful. I think that they need a larger study group to make any conclusions that are reliable.

My RE said 24 hours was plenty, then for the 2ww not to lift anything over 25lbs for the 2ww, no caffeine or alcohol, and no vigorous exercise. She also said no orgasm or sex for about 4-5 days past transfer.
On the paperwork they gave me, they also said, research does not show any benefit to more than 24 hours bed rest--if there was, they would definitely recommend it, but there isn't, so beyond that, it isnt necessary.
For the bed rest, she said my feet had to be elevated, and I was only allowed to climb the stairs once the entire 24 hours, then get up only for bathroom. Eat in bed, and have DH serve you, etc.
