Does anyone drink their smoothies? I have had a helluva day with my therapist and issues, and crying, and AF and the endo has beaten me to a pulp with pain this month, so I cannot eat.
Anyway, I got a bananaberry smoothie with a protein boost and a femme boost. But....I looked up the carbs (I'm doing the IR diet), and noticed it was 112 carbs.
What do you all think? A 'one time' treat, or workable with that plan?
Jamba Juice should have 5 newish all-fruit smoothies (at least as of March when I was down in TX). I don't know how compatible they are with the IR diet specifically, but 4 of the 5 did not do anything bad to my blood sugars. (The grape juice one was a little jittery for me.) Fruit carbs are better than normal carbs on the IR diet because the sugar (fructose) is digested differently (and there's also good fiber stuff), but there is a definite hierarchy to which fruits are better for you than others. I'm really not an expert on this but if you ask on the diet and exercise forum there are a ton of ladies who can tell you exactly.
I always worry that places like Jamba Juice will have too much sugar in their stuff. I make my own at home with some ice, fruit, juice, and sometimes sherbert. The portion sizes are smaller, and it's less expensive to buy canned stuff in light syrup and frozen fruits to add. You get more for your money.
In terms of the hierarchy, I know oranges are good on the IR diet, as they have a low glycemic index, so perhaps orange-based smoothies are a place to start. I believe watermelon is on the not good side of the spectrum.
I love Jamba Juice! I order mine without sherbert, with 2 protein scoops, a 'fiber boost' and a 'vita boost'. I have the impression that the fruit and fruit juice that they use do not have added sugar just the fructose that occurs naturally in the fruit - it is sometimes difficult to get the straight story on that since fruit does contain 'sugar' naturally - I think that someone behind the counter of another smoothie place sort of mislead me on the sugar thing. Fruit smoothies are probably not the best thing to do carb-wise and they are pretty expensive to have out but it is a quick meal on the go and I probably get some nutrients from the fruit that I would not otherwise get in my diet. . . . plus the Mango go-go is pretty yummy even without the sherbert!
At home I make my smoothies with packaged frozen fruit (I make sure and check the ingredients for sugar) ice, milk, sometimes a little fruit juice, protein powder, vitamin c powder, 'All One' Powder Multi Vitamin, (plain) Inositol and powdered cal/mag suppliment. I sort of figure that if I put enough good stuff in it I can sort of justify having some carbs from fruit and I think that the smoothie taste holds up to all the other stuff and it is an easy way to get it all down at once.

I agree, and it is better than a BIG MAC meal lol Your homemade smoothie sounds fantastic It seems that Jamba is the only way I'm eating any sort of fruit nowadays.
