Default Jawline breakouts

Does anyone else deal with breakouts along their jawline mostly? It is so annoying and leading to scarring and I can't stand it. I've tried so many things (now Cetaphil and benzoyl peroxide gel) but nothing seems to help it!

mama2ak,

When I was still getting breakouts, most of them were on my chin and along my jawline. My esthetician once told me that breakouts in those areas are most definitely hormonal-based.

I already mentioned this in several others threads, but the only thing that finally helped my skin to clear up is taking Meformin. I noticed that you are now taking Metformin XR....maybe you might want to ask your doctor to switch you to the regular Metformin? The regular Met seems to be more effective on some people than the XR version.

Also, what skin care line are you using, if any? Several people on this forum seem to really like Proactiv (it didn't work for me personally), but others have had success with Clinique, Murad, Philosophy, Neutrogena, and other brands. I personally like the Mario Badescu and Paula's Choice brands. You've said that you've tried a lot of things already, if if there is a brand here mentioned that you haven't used yet, it may be worth it to request samples from the company to see if their particular products will work for you.

I've been experiencing only Jawline breakouts lately; totally new to me, I usually break out on my cheeks, another strange spot.

...interesting that it's hormone related, I wonder why that is?

You know, hopingandpraying, I wish I knew the reason, too. The esthetician didn't really give me an explanation for it. It would be interesting to know why, as many of us here are suffering from hormonal imbalances due to PCOS.

Unhappy

I get most of my breakouts along my jawline. It's VERY annoying, not to mention embarrassing.

I am on 1000mg Met a day and if anything it's gotten worse, although I also have an IUD... which is quite possibly the reason it's worse and not better. I got the IUD and started Met fairly close together. I have yet to find anything that takes care of my breakouts and I've tried everything from Proactive to Neutrogena.

I'm at a loss and I'm sorry I can't help, but I wanted to let you know you're not alone.

continual jawline breakouts are a new thing for me. i've been on met for a year and i'm accustomed to only getting acne right before my period. my dr orders bloodwork every 3 months since i take met and my most recent bloodwork revealed that the androgen dhea-s is elevated. my dr said this can explain the acne and facial hair that i've been dealing with. my dr wants me to take bcp for a few months because the androgens bind to something in the pill.

has anyone else noticed a correlation to jawline breakouts and elevated androgen levels?

I have been breaking out horribly since I have been taking metformin mostly on the jawline, but now I'm breaking out all over my face. I hate it, i've never had any issues with breaking out until recently.

I also experience breakouts (my main PCOS symptom) on my jawline and chin. They have also been on my nose, but never on my forehead and cheeks. I read online (sorry it was a while ago I don't have the link) that in Chinese medicine acne on the chin/jaw is related to a problem with the ovaries. It was my bad breakouts that caused me to go get a facial and the facialist/doctor told me my breakouts look hormonal and that I should go to a gynecologist. I did, and she found PCOS and a benign solid cyst on my ovary.

My endo started me on Spirolactone (sp?) for my acne... mostly on my jawline as well. Seems to be drying up a bit. I will keep you posted! Hang in there. It sucks.

I was actually diagnosed because I was breaking out on my jawline and a derm told me that it was hormonal and that he couldn't do anything! I was so frustrated! Then I was sent to my endo.

Spiro worked for me, so I hope it helps you austxollie! I have started breaking out all over now that I've had to stop to TTC.

MommaKing - I definitely had elevated androgens when I had all my acne before, so I imagine I do now that its back. I was also put on Yasmin when I first went on the Spiro, and together they really helped.

I have never had a problem with acne and was very blessed that my face has always been clear, for the most part. Recently my chin and jawline are breaking out and it is driving me insane as well. I am due for AF any day now (it's late... imagine that) so I'm assuming it's hormonal but it is a pain in the butt!!

I've been bad and have not taken my Met lately. I am planning on starting up again and my friend told me re-starting her Met actually helped clear her face so I'm hoping that is my case as well. Good luck to you! I wish I had some helpful advice but I am in the same boat, my friend.

Jawline breakouts are sometimes caused by the bacteria on your phones...try wiping them down every couple days so bacteria doesn't build.

Yep. I have been getting a lot of breakouts on my chin. And my back. I've never had really clear skin but never had constant breakouts. It got worse when I went off the pill and even MORE worse when I started taking the medroxyprogesterone pills. UGH!!!! And, nothing seems to help.

My husband keeps saying "drink more water" and its soooooo frustrating!

So I've been using my green tea body bar on my face along with my usual gentle exfoliation in the shower, as well as dabbing on 100% tea tree oil on my sore places and zits on my jaw and chin. Sometimes I mix the oil with my moisturizer. This has REALLY seemed to help! I've only used it for 4 days and I can definitely tell a difference. I'm not clear by any means but I can tell its drying up and healing. And my "nice skin" which is on my cheeks and nose is looking quite radiant.
I'm also trying really hard to drink green smoothies since I heard these will clear up acne. But I've only had a few of those so far.
