I just got the book in the post and i must say, so far, it's a great read.
There is only 2 pages on PCOS and most of it is the stuff you are all ready bound to know from having read it here. However, she talks quite a bit about her own battle with hormones and really seems to know her stuff. There's lots of good dietry advice, too.
I give it a thumbs up!

The two pages on PCOS are basically just the facts. What it is, what the symptoms are, the links with IR, how losing just 10% of your weight can help stablize the PCOS, etc.
However, every bit of advice she gives throughout the book is related to PCOS and how to balance your hormones in order to get your body back in shape.
At the start of the book, Jillian talks about how, even during the Biggest Loser, if she didn't workout for several hours a day and eat 1200 calories she would gain 15lbs in the blink of an eye. But now that she has tackled her hormones and has them in check she only works out five hours per week, eats 1800, and doesn't gain a lb.
She looks into effective vitamins, foods to get rid of, foods to have in moderation and foods you MUST include in your diet, hormone trigger foods, power nutrients....the list is endless. Even her meal plans look very effective. (They include recipes.)
I think every woman on this site could benefit from this book. Jillian really has done her research.
wow that sounds awesome. She talked a lot about it on her podcast and since I've changed a lot of my foods to organic and stopped microwaving plastic. I'm definitely getting it!
'Biggest Loser' trainer learned from experience
by Julie Deardorff

Fitness guru Jillian Michaels was a train wreck.
Sure, "television's toughest trainer" could work weight-loss miracles on the NBC series " The Biggest Loser." But off camera, she was burning the candle at both ends, trashing her body in the gym and living on processed foods, artificial sweeteners and caffeine.
"My hormones were entirely whacked out—and with it, my metabolism," Michaels said.
Now the 34-year-old says that hormonal imbalances are a big reason why women—herself included—struggle to lose weight, even as they're ruthlessly dieting and exercising. Her journey back to health, which she details in her latest book, "Master Your Metabolism" (Crown, $26), involved making diet and lifestyle changes to rebalance her hormonal levels. "People think they've been handed a sentence of having a 'slow metabolism' and there's nothing they can do," said Michaels, who wrote the book with endocrinologist Christine Darwin and medical researcher Mariska van Aalst.
The straight-talking Michaels elaborated for us by phone from her home in Los Angeles.
Q What is "metabolism" to you?
A It's your biochemistry, the symphony of the hormones that tell your body when to eat, what you're craving, what to store as fat and what to burn as fuel. You can't just boost one hormone; you have to balance them. It's like an orchestra. If you tune the violin but not the trombone, it's all screwed up.
Q How can you speed up a slow metabolism?
A Get more sleep. Fill up on fiber so the body produces more leptin, which makes you feel full. And when you're trying to lose those last 10 pounds, the body gets panicky and shuts off your metabolism, so you have to incorporate weight training. It's critical in releasing growth hormone, which burns fat.
Q Why is sleep important?
A It increases human growth hormone and leptin (which tells the brain to turn off hunger). It inhibits the release of ghrelin (a hormone that tells the brain you're famished) and cortisol (stores fat).
Q What changed after you got your hormones balanced?
A I was working out eight hours a week, eating 1,200 calories a day and exhausted all the time. Now I feel healthier than ever and I'm able to maintain my physique by working out three to four hours a week and eating 2,000 calories.
Q What's the biggest mistake at the gym?
A Underestimating their ability and not pushing themselves. If you want to release fat-burning hormones, you have to get your heart rate up. If you're not pushing, you're not burning enough calories to make a difference, so you're wasting time. You also won't get results, which can be discouraging. People say they "went to the gym," but then they walk 3 miles an hour at no incline.

Her book promotes eating organic whole foods. She also gives a list of always go organic foods and others where you don't always have to buy organic.
I found it to be an interesting read and I really think a lot of the things she points out does contribute to weight gain. I eliminated diet soda totally and lost 5lbs in a week without changing anything else.
This book really is awesome. Like NativeNYer said, she condones organic food because a lot of the preservatives and hormones in genetic food messes with our endocrine system. I'm following what she says and I've lost some weight. However, I've also been working out 60 minutes a day, 120 minutes three times a week. I think adding lots of vegetables and REAL, wholesome food helps a lot.
I definitely recommend it!
I just got through reading the book, I really enjoyed it. It makes sense to me that hormones in the food we are eating would effect our own horomones. I'm going to slowly start incorporating her rules into my life, I think it would kill my wallet to do it all at once.
I would love to here how well this way of eating works for other cysters.
