Hi Girls
I just got back from a doctors appt. and I dont know what to think...at first when I brought to his attention that I thought I had PCOS he gave me the run around. When I went back 2 months ago w/abdominal pain with unknown origin and the fact that I am on the bi-polar rollercoaster when I am on this pill-I made sure to tell his nurse that if he blew me off again he would loose a patient....I got his full attention.
Well, he changed my pill -fine...now instead of being weepy sad and insecure for a couple of days I'm mad and mean...ok well I can control mad and mean better then I could weep and sad...however, I had break-through bleeding and well that didnt work.
I just got back today...we talked about an iud...decided against that. We are trying a new pill...ok fine...
However, there is still this abdominal pain that I have for NO reason for oh say 3-4 months now...he did a quick exam...ok...didnt feel anything...the abd pain is pretty constant and worse during my period (oh well maybe you should LISTEN to your patients a bit better next time-they might have had a point-say it isnt so!!!) So he orders a transvaginal ultra sound (what ever that is-I havent googled it yet) am I close to getting a DX here? Last time I had labs drawn they were with in normal limits (nothing like they were when I had them taken as a kid-when you first go to see the gyn for the first time-the doc I saw then said they were all backwards)
Am I getting close to a DX?
I'm scared?
What if its worse?
What does PCOS feel like? My pain is lower left only...
I havent had any abd pain until 3-4 months ago...then I started to pursue this even more...
Someone please help explain all of this too me-or look into the future or something...the abd pn is really starting to scare me.
I had the same experience with being DX...First, he refused to believe i have PCOS...First he told me to " lose weight" and im not huge btw at least i dont think. Then he kept saying " i dont know why you think you have this!" i said " well then tell me why i can grow a beard- huh!?" Then we argued because i wouldnt go on BC..He order labs tests and a transvaginal ultrasound . First my lab tests came back " normal" which was upsetting for me because i knew it wasnt in my head and when i went into the ultrasound i thought it was gonna be a way or him to completely disprove i have it now. Well, my my shocking surprise, my ovaries were covered in cysts and as soon as i walked into his office he said " Well, you do have polycystic ovaries!" and then said if i dont wanna go on BC or metformin then not to go back there til i am pregnant...what a jerk, anyway.......The pain you might be having is a painful ovulation, i have it all the time or you might have cysts that popped or something. I believe i had that a few times because i went to the ER for sharp stabbing pains in my uterine area but they could never find what it was..

Hi, first off ((hugs)) I am sorry you have such a crappy doc I would def find a new one or find an endocronolgist since this is an endocrine disorder.
I am on my third doc and he seems a little more understanding and explains things to me better.
PCOS doesn't really feel like anything really, there so many different things that happen to your body that you can have all of the signs or only one or none at all. I personally have the excess hair, the ahrd to loose weight, and lack of AF and don't necessarily ovulate on a reg basis but when i do it is painful, oh yeah I have cysts on my ovaries. Which I have had a dull ache for the last month which is probably due to a cyst.
My doc initially tested me for cushings which can mimic PCOS in a variety of ways the true way to diagnose PCOS is through a thorough Bloodwork which can show the abnormal levels and also show insulin resistance which also can occur and the transvaginal u/s which all that is they do an internal u/s using a long wand that they insert vaginally it give them a better view of your ovaries and uterus and can identify the cysts and is not really uncomfortable it is just like have your yearly exam it usually takes about 10 min.

The pain that you describe is probably a cyst. The reason that it is worse during AF is cause when we bleed the blood also goes into our tubes and then back out. It is the way that our body cleans us out. The problem is that if the pain is really bad it could be a cyst that burst or one of your tubes could be cloged. I know how it is to have a DR that wont listen. I have been trying to get a DX for 10 years and finally about a month ago finally went to see a DR that did all of the blood work and ruled out everything else and that is how they finally decided that I have PCOS. Most of my blood work was normal and I only had a few cysts. Dont let your DR push you into anything. If you dont like the answer you get get a new DR. I am really sorry that you are having to go through all of this.

To start with my reply...once I threatened to fire my doc he is now very patient and listens well. Amazing what happens when you tell them that ya know what-I pay you. Therefore, I can fire you. I know I have options to go see someone else...but I like my doc...I think he just needed a kick in the bum.
Would PCOS abd pain last 3-4 months...continually? It subsides for a day or two every now and again but hasnt stopped in 3-4 months. AND it is worse with a period...but I've always had bad periods. Its hard when your body has been screwed up probably from the begining b/c then you dont know normal vs different. However, the pain for 3-4 months is DIFFERENT. Thats what scares me the most. Too many variables...but MAN did it get my doc to sit up straight and listen...and he doesnt try to push me into anything...if anything he tries to keep me from over reacting (which I appreciate b/c sometimes I can go off the deep end) He can be a pain in the bum-but arent most me (its in their dna) but like I said...threaten him with a firing and he's good to go.
So I guess the question is-can PCOS pain last 3-4 months? I've had painful periods since the begining of time. That pain is "normal." The dull...annoying...I'm here and I'm not going to get too bad but just let you know I'm here pain is what frightens the poop out of me!
Strange enough I had symptoms of PCOS yet no diagnosis, and over the past few years I'll have a few weeks or months of lower abdominal pain on left side which the doctors cant explain - perhaps this is part of it?
I should tell you I was DX in 2001 and my reg. Dr was a total jerk to me and said "OH, your just fat!" All I needed in his mind was to lose weight and/or get PG! WELL DUH! I had ALL the classic symptoms and he still never mentioned PCOS to me, not once! I read about it in an articale one day and I called some endos and they didn't treat it. Finally I went to a Reproductive Endocrynologist. He took one look at me and knew I had it without the tests and of course did tests anyway. I am also insulin resistant. I have cystic ovaries also, and yes they do hurt. Everytime I ovulate I get a sharp stabbing pain usually in my right side! Sometimes it just aches like you said. Girl, go to another Dr who will respect that you KNOW something is wrong with you and is knowledgeable in PCOS. Research Docs in your area, don't let this go cause I went to that same JERK for 2 years prior to my DX and let me tell you I don't see him anymore! ((((HUGS))))! I feel you believe me! Keep us posted!
I had similiar pain. Mine was pelvic and then radiating to my back. I was told it was because I was overweight. It went on for several months, coming and going, sometimes more severe. Well, finally I had an MRI, showed a larged Dermoid cyst on my left ovary. (You would think that they would have diagnosed my PCOS at this time?)
I did have to have it surgically removed. (Cyst only) Hopefully you don't have that, it is probably all the small cysts that you may have on your ovaries. I just wanted to share my experience...that's what we do here

Thanks for listening...I'll post as I know more.
I have had constant ovary pains since about April. They worsen around my period or when I ovulate. Sometimes if I sneeze it hurts terribly. Like you, I've always had painful periods but yes, this is annoying. Most days I can feel it, then there's a few days that I don't even notice. It seems to be getting better now that I'm taking Yasmin.
thank you to everyone that has posted (((hugs)))
BF made mention of endometrisosis...which has a lot of the same symptoms...I guess the ultra sound will show what the heck is going on...I reallly just want answers...it helps to come here and chat with everyone that has been there...there is a girl at work that has it but b/c I'm not overweight (probably the only symptom I dont have) she says I cant possibly have PCOS. I just want answers and to make it go away. Sounds easy right? Not so much...so here I wait...
Ive got my period and I'm an emotional basket case....I'm scared more than anything...what will all of this add up to? will I be able to have kids? what if one or both DX's exist. How will bf handle it...blah blah blah...dont get me wrong bf is supportive...but sometimes misses the boat when I'm super worried about something...So, I've kept my concerns to myself, my sister and you all. I really appreciate it.
Pls dont flame BF its just that he likes to know that he has something to worry about before getting super worried...when I first told him about the abd pn he flipped and wanted to know why I hadnt said anything to him...then you could see the medical side of him just in full gear trying to figure out what was wrong...pretty impressed I could get a pregnancy test in and out of the house with out him knowing...what can I say I'm good. After the MD appt the other day...you saw the same thoughts go thru his mind...now we just sit and wait for the exam and everything else...he's much more level headed about these things than I am. I worry and play what if with myself...he just attacks the problem head on...its funny tho...he asks the best questions...and even tho I want to go to my next appt by myself I hesitate b/c he does ask all the right questions. Helps being in the med field which we both are...I just get more emotional than he does....
I have been in pain since august 21st- same LLQ pain. I even went as far as to have laparoscopic surgery to see if i had endometriosis, and came back with nothing noted except that my ovaries were a little swollen. no endometriosis! also had a vag ultrasound, they couldn't tell anything except for me having cysts.
GOOD LUCK BABE. i'm still trying to figure out why i'm in pain and am going to see an endo on thursday, hopefully they can help. PM me if you'd like to chat sometime, i can relate a lot to your problems.
