I was wondering how you guys got the money for adoption. I have a friend who is saving and saving and is having a hard time with all this...I was wondering if you had any suggestions I can pass along to her?

We took out a home equity loan....worked really well and when we refinanced and added the adoption expense our monthly payment was lower than it was before! It is definelty an option. I know some people apply for grants or do some fundraising. Also some agencies offer financial assistance for those in need. I would look into your friends employer also..sometimes they offer adoption assistance. Mine did not unfortunelty..Hope this helps a bit

You know it bothers me...and I hope this don't make me sound bad...but this friend is in her 30's and has been trying for so long now..and she had an idea of fundraising and just so happened to mention it on another board and man they totally crushed her. It makes me so mad that some people have such an easy time having their babies and then when others like ourselves have a hard time they don't see it...LOL, i mean lol taking a loan out on top of your other bills for 23k is a heck of a lot of money...then you see these moms who are 14 and pregnant it just breaks me up! Ugh sorry for the rant, I just feel so bad for her. I just realized where your from...you and my friend live in the same town...haha! How funny!

Get a part-time job & put the entire thing in savings
Borrow from family/friends
Fundraise
Sell items (like items around your house or if your crafty, things you make)
Refi your house
Cut everything extra out you don't need (like, who really watches ALL those movie channels)
Any extra money you cut out of your monthly expenses, put towards the adoption. And open another savings acct for it so you can keep it separately.
Good Luck!
Traci

Sometimes family are willing to give your inheritance early
We did the line of credit and save save save....but we are also a two income family and that makes a big difference...
I wish your friend all the best...where there is a will there is a way

Keep in mind--there is an adoption credit. I recently found out about this through a friend and then researched it myself. Whatever expenses are accrued--she can get credited back up to 10,600. I am not sure if it applies to international adoptions or just domestic. Have her go to IRS site and research.
Also--there is an awesome adoption agency in Tulsa Oklahoma called
Crisispregnancyoutreach.com. They are a Christian organization where the adoptions are open and very affordable. For a healthy newborn--it is about $10,000. You must be a Christian and meet some other specific criteria. I know someone who has adopted multiple times from them. Another similar agency is in San Antonio Texas called Abrazo adoption agency.
--I hope this helps!

ME: 29 DH: 32 PCOS: DX 1998 We are in the process to adopt our 2 year old little boy and just found out we are expecting in early Sept. Praise God!!!
Hmm, I am no expert on these things. BUT i do know that sometimes depending on your state etc, that the social services department has children that are in need of home placement, and alot of times you can ask for the children who are soon to be adoptable. There are soooo many children under 3 that are needing homes. Not only this but I know my state actually pays you to house them and be thier family until the final adoption ( which could take a year or two depending on the situation.) I know that a friend of mine took in a 2 year old, it wasnt supposed to be permanant but then the mother signed her off to social services. She was recieving 850 dollars a month, then she fell in love with Jaysa and Adopted her through the state Her legal fees were all she paid ( around $2500.00) So that is another option, not really what you were looking for but stil and option maybe?
