Reading another thread on here about PCOS and that they don't have cysts - whether this means it is PCOS or something else. I note many people have said you can have PCOS without cysts (in NZ I think this is different, if you don't have cysts they check you for loads of other disorders, I believe the cyst is the definer for PCOS here)
Anywho
If I had cysts, my hormones were all wacky and I had no periods, and now I dont have cysts, my hormones are normal but my periods are still hit and miss does this mean I no longer have PCOS? Or that I just have it under a well managed thumb?
I guess what I am asking is not whether it will come back, but if there is a leap or transition from non PCOS to PCOS? Like when your a skinny kid and dont have diabetes and then as an adult you develop it and have to inject yourself.
Am I making any sense????
Cheers! (Yes I think I am rambling)

Here it could be known as good management , i say this because , when my pcos symptons are all good bar one or two im still classed as pcos but it will say on my notes from march-augest symtpons were good then - and then it will say what seemed to go wrong ect,!

See I was thinking if I went to a new doc now with a complaint of unusual periods, but my hormones are fine, I don't have cysts or acne/hair growth - they wouldn't be able to diagnose me as Pcos would they?
Which makes me think that (yes I know I have it) but technically whilst I am managing I don't have it?

My doctor said that diagnosis was made on the basis you had 2 out of 3 of the following:
- blood tests that indicated odd testosterone LSH etc
- 'visible' symptoms such as obesity, irregular or no periods, hair, acne etc
- ultrasound showing cysts.
I understand this is standard practice not just in NZ but in many countries.
Because I had the first 2 I didn't need an ultrasound. And I didn't have any other outstanding symptoms that didn't really fit they didn't investigate too broadly at other syndromes/disesase - although I believe my blood test covered thyroid, liver etc tests. I don't know if I have cysts or not, but its a pretty safe assumption to make for me because of the lack of periods and the occassional immense pain!

So now that I only have one of those symptoms, one could technically say I am not "expressing" pcos so do not have it (though technically I do have it, its just hidden at the moment)
