I'm one of those who PCOS'ers that have regular periods. Regular...as in once a month, (although not exact at 28 days). But as far as periods go, they are excruciating! Very heavy bleeding, debilitating cramps for two days, and they last for 7-8-9 days.

My doctor said that some women do have periods even though they're PCOS, and that having a period doesn't always mean you're ovulating.

I HATE having periods! I was to the point that I asked him to take EVERYTHING out! I'm seriously considering having ablation done, so that I don't have these curses every month! I absolutely hate them!

wow - you're lucky that your periods become regular. Mine has never been since the very first one 14 yrs ago

tburley - don't you want to try taking birth control pills? I had strong cramps/pains too (though without the heavy bleeding), and my DR advised me to take bcp to regulate my period & ease the pain - and it did. I was like you hating my periods (plus I never knew when it'd show up!), but all my problems stopped when I was on the bcp. Of course the troubles were back again when I stopped bcp for ttc... but thankfully I don't have to experience it again for the next 8 months!

I had the same thing happen to me. I was irregular since I had my first period. Around the time I turned 21 I was very regular for about 2 years. Now I'm back to my same ol' late periods again. I have no idea what happened?

Hey Fan! You ask "why not the BCP?" Well, for starters, I had my tubes tied so I wouldn't have to take the BCP, (I know...but seems redundant to me!) Secondly, I'm sorry to admit it...but I'm a "stress smoker", and strokes run in my family...sooooooooooo I will not take the pill. Third, I tried BCP in my early twenties...several different kinds, and I felt HORRIBLE, gained tons of weight, and was very *itchy! In fact...when I addressed these issues with my old Dr. and told him they made me "*itchy", he said..."Have you ever considered that you ARE just a *itch?" LOL too funny! (I'd known this man for years and was friends with his twin daughters, cheered together, slumber parties etc... so our repore was different than just "Dr./patient" So BCP make me want to run screaming in the opposite direction!

BCP did the same thing to me. I had mood swings like cazy and I gained weight. I think BCP started my problem with PCOS. When I was younger I was on it and had all those symtoms. Once I stopped taking it I lost weight and was a normal person (no mood swings) besides the irreguar periods. I was fine until I went back on it (I let my boyfriend talk me into it). Once I went back on it, it all went to hell. So, I stopped taking it again and haven't been the same since. I've heard BCP helps for PCOS but I guess every woman is different.

Wow... gee.. never mind what I said abt bcp then Didn't realize it caused people so much misery and even turning others into an itch Guess I was quite lucky that I didn't have any side effects at all on bcp...

I was regular when I lost weight. I gained weight from the BCP. When I stopped taking it I was irregual. I've always thought it had something to do with the my weight gain.

Congrats on the regular period. I have been all over the place...for a while I was averaging (give or take) 35 days. But since I have started my metformin last year I've gone back to ranging from 24 to 52 days... it makes it hell trying to figure out when your ovulating!! LOL or trying to!

My most regular periods were anywhere beetween 3-6 weeks, that was before the pill. Since after the pill they've been all over the place anywhere between 20 days to 4 months.

I have had regular menses for the last year. Only they last up to 10 days. (Sigh) My dr. tells me that some women with PCOS have reg menses.
