I am 25 and not currently ttc. I went to a new doctor for my annual this morning. She was incredible! We talked a lot about my concerns and family history. She ordered lab work and confirmed what I already suspected--I have PCOS. Because my family has a history of heart disease and stroke, the dr also completed a hypercoag work up (to check my blood thickness and risk for serious conditions). I haven't had blood drawn in several years--and never 12 vials! On the 2nd vial, my blood actually began to clot in the plastic tubing before it even reached the vial. They were only able to draw 10 ml. Though the official test results won't be back for 3-4 wks, she referred me to an endocrinologist and hemalogist. I'm not able to take bcp because of the quick clotting. The dr. said I should begin taking blood thinner meds within a month or so. I began taking 50 mg of spiro today. So...I have officially begun my PCOS journey. The PCOS is scary enough on its own, without the complications of the blood thickness issue. I know that the bcp are supposed to suppress cysts. But if I'm not able to take them, are there other meds that have the same effect without increasing the risk of stroke/heart disease? My appts with the endocrinologist and hemalogist won't be scheduled until the official test results come back so if anyone has suggestions of questions to ask, please let me know.
Sorry I don't have any suggestions for you - but I'm SURE someone will be able to help out with that before you know it!

Welcome to Soulcysters...Im glad that you found a DR that you are comfortable with!!! I would discuss all of your concerns with all of your DRs...I have been DX-ed with PCOS since Aug 2002 and still to this day I will call my gyn and say did you read this about PCOS or what about this.....
About the BCP thing and the cysts I dont have any advice but put that on the list to ask...Im sure there has to be something...
