Hi, I was just told yesturday by the obgyn after the bloodtests and months of questions that i have pcos. Im worried and scared. She told me very little, i have another doctor appointment monday with a family doctor to discuss things like my insulin levels and such.
due to pcos i have not had a cycle since november, other than the one a couple weeks ago that was induced by projesterone sorry i know i misspelled that.
i have had hair loss, slight hair growth on my chin, extreme weight gain, i am already overweight, but since my period stopped i gained about 40 pounds in the past 8 months i have dieted, i could not lose it.
the obgyn said i was already in the beggining stages of diabetes and my insulin levals were bad...i dont understand much of this, im worried about my health and extremly depressedd that i most likely will not be able to concieve.
DanielleMarie,
First, welcome to SoulCysters! You'll learn a great deal here about what PCOS is and how to work with/around/through it. I highly recommend that you read some of the "sticky"s to help you understand what PCOS is and how it affects your health. For example, your weight gain (and difficulty in losing it) is definitely PCOS related. Check on the chin hair and a maybe on the hair loss (it could be a couple of other things too).
Shortly after I was diagnosed, I found a couple of books at the library: The PCOS protection plan : how to cut your increased risk of diabetes, heart disease, obesity, and high blood pressure / Colette Harris and Theresa Cheung
and
Both provide a good overview in layman's terms about how PCOS presents as a cluster of issues and why this happens. It helped me to understand the larger picture which made a huge difference for me. If I recall correctly, Futterweit is one of the big researchers on PCOS.
Good luck and stick around. You'll learn a lot.

I was diagnosed last year and it feels like yesterday because I am no where withmy progress with this illness. This seems like a good place to start my friend. We are in it together.

Welcome. I was diagnosed last fall and remeber that feeling of being overwhelmed and that there's no hope for me. I am bound to be overweight, harry, and childless. But in the few months I have been able to research (this site is great) and talk to my doctor, I don't feel like that anymore. I know that wont make your stress go away, but it might give you insight that there IS hope. There are many treatment options and things you can do for yourself to help with some of the symptoms. Take care of yourself, make sure your doctor is good with you and with PCOS, and know your not alone in the battle.
Im trying not to worry as much, im doing my research i have a doctors appointment tomorrow, im just, scared, confused...frustrated with my obgyn because her responce to this was ,
" Dont worry about PCOS like, everyone has it, its really common, ill see you at your yearly and we will check you for diabetes in a few years, other than that youll be fine except when you want to concieve. Then youll need help."

Think its time to find another one....
You're right to run away from this doctor. Really! A doctor who would rather reactively treat you for a chronic condition (diabetes!!!) than work with you to proactively keep you healthy and avoid diabetes as long as possible??!!?!?!? WTF??!!
Take a look at the "Finding a Doctor" thread to find one who will work with you rather than wait around for the "inevitable" that's not always inevitable if you actively work to prevent it.
Good for you for being your own advocate!
