Default Just diagnosed

I was just diagnosed with type 2 diabetes during a hospital stay last week. It definitely does run in my family but I always convinced myself I would never have to face it. I mean one would normally think, ongoing PCOS battles, being born with a cleft lip, and being hairy and chubby would be enough right? But no, let's add diabetes to it too!!!

I'm frustrated because I'm recovering from a blood clot in my lung, ( a lovely side effect of birth control), I'm on blood thinners to treat it, I can't shave due to fear that a razor will cause me to bleed too much if I get cut or bruised at all. So now, I can't breathe, can't exercise, can't sleep, my plumbing is majorly backed up (thanks to pain killers I've been on) but now I'm fighting with diabetes too. Sure, take away all my coping foods. I can't have the ice cream, the cookies, or the chocolates, my comfort foods if you will.

And now of all times I started the other day, so thanks to the blood thinners, this whole period is a walk in the park! I'm stressed out and this is not the kind of stress I need 3 months before my wedding..oy. I am SO tired of this.

I'm so sorry about hearing that you are now diabetic! Diabetes is very manageable and it's not as scary as people make it out to be. Doctors and other people worry becasue they really don't understand what it is like to have it. Even doctors I know who are diabetic are very clueless as to what us people who take insulin go through. It's an extra 10 minutes out of your day really. Once you learn how to control it, it's a piece of cake! Right now the best thing to do is take in as much information as you can and also make sure you meet with a nutritionist or a dietician to help you know what you can eat and what you can't and what portions. It takes time to get it right for where you need to be, so don't stress too much over it. It took me over a year because the doctor I had was diabetic and on pills. He put me on an insulin that didn't work for me because I don't eat at the same times every day and I need more fast acting than long acting. Also everyone is different. everyone has a different Biochemistry, so keep that in mind. What works for me, might not work for you. If you have any questions you can feel free to message me and I will be glad to help you!

Best Wishes!

Lisa

Dont be afraid to shave, just use caution. I am on blood thinners and I had a toenail removed without problems. I shave frequently with no problems.
