my name is jennifer, im 22 and i was just diagnosed about a month ago. the only reason i even found out about having pcos is because i have been trying (unsuccessfully) to get pregnant for over a year now. i am now on metformin 3x a day and my doctor said that after a year she will put me on clomid but that i shouldnt have any problems getting pregnant...is that normal? from what ive read so far about pcos it is the leading cause of infertility in women, but does that change because of treatment? she also said that i dont have any cysts is this normal as well? any info at all will help...Thank you
There are 5 types of PCOS, so we don't all have the same symptoms. Met has helped a lot of ladies on this site conceive and carry to term. I was not on it when I got pregnant with my first child, but was when I got pregnant with my second child.
PCOS is the leading cause of infertility, but most cysters do eventually conceive with or without treatment. Many of us found that diet and weightloss worked the best. There is a link that explains that women with PCOS gain fertility as we age, so you might be more fertile past 30 than you are now, while in the general population the opposite is true.
Met is very helpful as a first treatment for infertilty for many women. It also greatly reduces misscarriage rates in the first trimester.
Check out the Diet and Exercise Board for diets that seem to work well with PCOS. Check out the Alternative Remedies board for info on cinnamon and vinegar.
my doctor did a lot of blood work, but she still hasnt gotten back to me about it. it was really weird because she diagnosed me before even looking at my blood work (although ive been seeing her since i was 16). she just blurted it out like she knew i had this all along and never bothered to tell me i guess.
I had to tell my doctors I had it. Before that it was never mentioned to me. A lot of women have that problem. I hope you get a copy of all your blood work.
ive had ultrasounds for this before but i dont have any cysts. i just found out yesterday that my bloodwork was 'normal' but my doctor wont be in to talk to me until monday morning..so im a little worried now because if it isnt pcos then why cant i get pregnant? but from what ive been reading up on pcos it sounds like quite a few women are still diagnosed with pcos even though their bloodwork is normal and have no cysts. i still have several other signs that match up with this disease so i guess ill find out monday whats going on.

Bloodwork doesn't tell the whole story. Many women with PCOS never have cysts. Some have normal bloodwork according to which lab is used and their differeing standards.
Make sure you are being screened for Cushings as that has some of the same symptoms as PCOS. Same with thyroid and liver function.
There are specialists for reproduction who can better tell you if PCOS is causing your infertility or something else. They are called REs.

Jennifer, I know exactly how you feel. My name is Ashly and my hubby and I have been trying for a year and a half now to have a baby. I just found out today that I have PCOS. They ran more tests today and I should find out tomorrow about the results and medication. I'm also very confused about how Met is supposed to help as well seeing as how it is a diabetic medication. PCOS is a difficult thing, and is the leading cause in infertility. But with the Met, it will help with you insulin levels, our bodies are not using the insulin like it is supposed to. PCOS can lead to diabetes, which is also what I am worried about. I would like to keep in touch with you and know how your journey with Met is working and see if you cycle(if it is anything like mine, its aweful) regulates and if you ovulate. I'm 22 also, and I would like to update you with any info I find out, as I would like you to update me as well. .your more then welcome to email me at anytime. .BABY DUST****
