I've never had regular periods - they always lasted a long time and only came 4-5 times a year. I grew up in a family that didn't really talk about this kind of stuff, so I never really knew what to do. I got on BC before getting married almost 5 years ago and then got off of it 2 years ago. The OB I was seeing sent me for bloodwork - when I called to get the results, they told me nothing was wrong and sent me to RE. I was mortified - I had no idea why I was being sent to the Fertility Clinic to see a specialist. The RE put me on Prometrium and have been taking that for the last 2 years - he offered Clomid at the time, but I wasn't ready...I just wanted a "regular" period w/o being on BC. The RE told me to "lose weight" and that was it - no dianosis, just "lose weight". The good news is that the Prometrium worked like a charm each month.
This year before my annual checkup I decided to find a new OB. I was anxious about the visit a week before it even happened...I don't like doctors.

My new OB is wonderful - he spent more time with me then my old OB had in all the years combined. They drew 2 vials of blood and will be testing my thyroid, liver function, and another panel he always tests for. He said he believes I have PCOS (which I'd already thought by researching on the Internet). One other thing I really liked about him was he said he doesn't go for the whole "lose weight" school of thought - he's helped women of all sizes have babies and feels that the weight loss will come, but it's not something he pressures. I left his office with 4 prescriptions and hope - hope that I can have a baby. I now believe it's not totally out of the question and am positively hopeful that the medicine will work. I never thought I'd be leaving his office with prescriptions - I fully expected a battery of tests first.
I will be on Glucophage XR, Femara CD 3-7, Estradiol, and Prometrium. (I forget all the days and just dropped my prescriptions off today, so I don't have them yet.) I'll start the Glucophage tomorrow and the Femara either Monday or Tuesday. I'll also take a Baby Aspirin each day.
I hope other have had success with a protocol like this one. It's such a blessing to think that some day, hopefully soon, my dreams of being a mommy will come true.
Thanks in advance for any and all encouragement and advice.
