Default Just diagnosed have some questions

Hi everyone,
I went to my doctor last week for the first time because I have had irregular periods since moving in with a female room mate about a little over a year ago. I don't mean really irregular. I never skip a period-its just either one week or the next and its hard to plan stuff.
All I mentioned was that and he noticed I had a slightly irregular hair pattern on my stomach and he said I had it and put me on the pill. he didn't answer any of my questions and kind of brushed it off.
Other than that I don't have any symptoms described on this site or any other site. Even the doctor said I was atypical. I have always had very clear skin, I have always been thin, I don't sweat very much and basically none of the syptoms and stories sound like me at all.
My mother had an irregular hair pattern in her lower abdomen too and she ahd it removed when she was my age as I was planning to do. She thought she had it after readng about it- she REALLY had infrequent periods. She would go months without one and a lot mroe syptoms than I did and she has some kind of cysts on her ovaries now but she was told she did not have it.
I ahven't gottenthis lab work back yet but my blood levels were tested about a year ago as I was sick and everything always has come back normal.
He felt my ovaries but didn't say anything but told me my reproductive system seemed to be thriving and told me most likely I would have no trouble having children and if he did he would put me on Clomid and not to worry. I did the math and the statistics with having children when you have PCOS and it has somewhat devastated me.
I am young and until last week I considered myself healthy and my entire life revolves around working with children. The long term health problems really look grim. I am really dreading getting older because my health is so good now. The doctor did not feel an ultrasound was necessary and i am not scheduled to see him for three months just to check on how I adjusted to the pill. He didn't mention anything about monitoring this disease or what I am supposed to do. I already eat a healthy diet and excercise. He is one of the leading OBGYNs in this area but I feel very unsatisfied with his daignosis as well as very angry about having this disease. Any advice or information that people could give to me would be appreciated.

To have PCOS, you don't have to show all the symptoms, I have many of them, but it started with my Cycle being a week late or early and hair being in strange places. I never thought anything of it until I started getting really off track. Is your mom diagnosed with PCOS? I have a younger sister who has it and that's how I found out that it runs in the family. I understand the feelings about having children. I always have wanted a family, but I have been TTC for over a year and no luck yet. I haven't tried any medications yet. Some doctors can be frusterating. I have had problems for 6 years and all they have given me is birth control (which only made matters worse) and a pill to make my cycle start (which worked for that particular week, but next month irregular again) I know how confusing it can be.

Well, my advice to all the people who say that they are dissatisfied with how their OBGYN is handling their cases is to find a reproductive endocrinologist. I am so glad that the OBGYN I first went to immediately referred me to an endrocrinologist who deals with PCOS patients on a regular basis. He answers all of my questions and never trivializes my situation.
