i was recently diagnosed with PCOS, lets just say it wasnt a surprise at all! Anyway i have been prescribed Metformin, and was wondering if anyone knows what effects alcohol has? i know it says dont drink on the instructions, but will a glass affect me greatly, or a once in a while binge?
well, i personally dont drink with the met. Goes straight to my head i find with the met, that as long as i stay away from fatty/sugar/greasy foods as much as poss, and always eat with the met i am ok with it.
There is a link in my siggie to the uk part of the boards, but of course we are all welcome eveywhere

From what I have been reading a drink or two here and there won't hurt but a binge night might interfere with the Metformin and cause those nasty side effects to get nastier!
thanks so much! im glad to know that, especially because im a uni student, and obviously the two go hand in hand, drinking and uni! i think i will take the advice not to binge and get very drunk, but seeing as its my friends birthday tonight, a sip of champagne would be nice!
I am starting on Met today (500mg bid) and DH's b-day party is this wkdn as well as some St. Patty's day fun....guess I have to keep the drink on the down low from here on out

The reason why you should not drink alcohol is because Met tends to dehydrate you. And alcohol worsens the effect. When I was on met, if I knew I was going out that day, I just wouldn't take it. But it also affected my stomach, so the drinks would make me feel worse.
